Description: Situated around the corner from The Royal Crescent, The Marlborough Tavern combines the atmosphere of a local pub with the quality of a top restaurant. Two AA rosettes, a horde of local & national awards plus inclusions in The Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide bear testimony to their consistent delivery of high quality cooking. They have a clear approach to food find the best and freshest ingredients and to create great tasting, essentially simple dishes where the quality of the produce speaks for itself. Married to that is a passion for inventiveness that sees the menu constantly changing. Food is essentially though not slavishly English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. The lunchtime menu features a range of lighter dishes and sharing plates plus some traditional pub classics - and the Sunday roasts are legendary. Their food reputation is matched by their service always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They have an extensive wine list and selection of local ales, and they can mix a mean cocktail too. Outside they boast what is arguably Baths finest pub garden; a walled courtyard space, its perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

We walked in and seated ourselves (standard, this is a pub, surely?). I went over to the bar to hear the staff gossiping that my girlfriend had seated herself and someone tutted. Basically we were made to feel that this was a restaurant and we were not welcome for drinks, despite it being a pub, having no menus anywhere (least of all on tables) and there not being any kind of sign saying "Wait to be seated". When I said we might consider getting a sandwich I was simply told "We don't do sandwiches" - again, no one gave me or directed me to a menu, so I felt extremely wrong and unwelcome. We drank up and left as soon as possible, despite having come here specifically because the owner told me on twitter it was a "great pub for ales".

Hi Leytonjay,

There has been a breakdown in communication here which we are extremely apologetic for. Yes we are a pub, but we are a pub that was fully booked on the day of your visit. You should have been greeted at the door, which you weren't which has ultimately led to this review. We don't always hit our usual service standards and in your case we have come nowhere close.

Please accept our apologies and if you are ever back in the area drop in and let us make it up to you.

Kind regards

Kristian

We found this randomly walking down through bath, a great find, a bit out of the way which makes it more charming, very nice sunny outdoor area, big tables, attentive service, a cute local pub.

We came here on Friday evening to celebrate our anniversary and weren't disappointed. We like real ales and the selection of three local (and different) brews were great. The food was delicious, well cooked and interesting. It is pricey here so we won't come here often but for another special occasion we certainly will return. It does get busy here so it is worth booking in advance. Service isn't speedy but this isn't a bad thing, it gives time for each amazing course to settle and at least you know that each course is being lovingly prepared.

Just had a lovely meal-wasn't expecting it to be so good as it seemed to be just like a casual pub/bar. The pork was delicious and my son said it was the best fish and chips he has ever had!

I've been to the Malborough Tavern a fair few times now and I've never been dissapointed. The food is delicious, there is a wide-ranging choice of booze and the staff are all really friendly. Would definitely recommend.
