Description: Situated around the corner from The Royal Crescent, The Marlborough Tavern combines the atmosphere of a local pub with the quality of a top restaurant. Two AA rosettes, a horde of local & national awards plus inclusions in The Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide bear testimony to their consistent delivery of high quality cooking. They have a clear approach to food find the best and freshest ingredients and to create great tasting, essentially simple dishes where the quality of the produce speaks for itself. Married to that is a passion for inventiveness that sees the menu constantly changing. Food is essentially though not slavishly English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. The lunchtime menu features a range of lighter dishes and sharing plates plus some traditional pub classics - and the Sunday roasts are legendary. Their food reputation is matched by their service always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They have an extensive wine list and selection of local ales, and they can mix a mean cocktail too. Outside they boast what is arguably Baths finest pub garden; a walled courtyard space, its perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

“Genuine food in Bath!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2009

This is a gastropub under newish ownership nicely decorated, snug corners, solid tables and excellent food. It's good value too and still enough of a pub to serve really nice beer - west country and farther afield. There is a decent menu and a specials board. The night we were there they had some really tasty sirloin beautifully cooked as well as sea bass and 'home-made' burgers. The wine is reasonable value and because they didn't have the Montepulciano I asked for they split the difference between that and the more expensive Veneto - I liked that. Two courses and three bottles of wine for eight of us was just over £200. Bath has a lot of tenanted chain restaurants and this one is a refreshing change.

“The best in Bath!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2009

Been to this wonderful place two or three times recently and I haven't had a bad experience yet. So, when taking reletives out for lunch who came down from Windsor for Sunday lunch there was only one place to go. And it didn't disappoint. Brilliant belly of pork and an amazing chocolate terrine. The only request from my relatives was "When are they going to open one in Windsor??!!"

“Fantastic food and friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 October 2009

We booked two meals in Bath the first (Tuesday), The Moon and Sixpence the second (Wednesday) The Marlborough tavern. On arrival at hotel the Moon and Sixpence was highly recommended and indeed the meal was wonderful. The Marlborough tavern seemed to be an unknown and after the Moon and sixpence we were a little unsure. However, the meal was better and £20 cheaper - well done. However you must spread the word around hotels as we nearly didn't come!! Helen and Dave ( Telford).

“Nice place shame about the lunch!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2009

This is my 3rd and last visit here. First time was for dinner in a large group and it was mediocre, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Second time was Sunday lunch at it was very good. However last week I went for a light lunch with a friend. We both opted for the walnut, bacon and fig salad at £8.50. I have never been so disappointed. It comprised of a few bits of very ordinary lettuce, one small fig chopped up, 3 rashers of uninspiring bacon and some dressing. Half way through I noticed they had forgotten the walnuts, they arrived in a small bowl(straight out of a bag, not roasted or anything else exciting) . I think this was outrageous for £8.50 even in Bath!

It was very quiet, however we had to ask the waitress for everything - the menu, the drinks, the coffee, the bill - she did not come to us to ask at all. What a shame because it's a lovely location and they have done it nicely inside.

“Your tastebuds are in Heaven.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2009

On tuesday we visited the Marlborough tavern,a lovely friendly eating place.I ordered a 6oz Neston Park organic Black & Tan sirloin steak, served with a peppercorn, thyme & tomato dressing,on braised local cabbage with rosemary, ginger & bacon,& handcut chips. The portion was more generous than I had expected, but the flavours were exquisite, with a starburst of different tastes upon your tongue.I have travelled widely, but this meal was the best that I have ever tasted anywhere in England or much of Europe. My husband ordered the slow roast carver chicken, and his experience was the same as mine.Should we return to stay in Bath in the future,we will
certainly visit the Marlborough again to recapture this culinary delight.
