“Amazing place to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

This was my second stay at Abbey Green and again it delivered on all points. Perfect and pretty location, lovely owners and an excellent service.

We stayed in the 'Elinor Dashwood' room and absolutely loved it.

Breakfast was lovely too! Anything you could want.

Thanks to Sue and family, hope to see you again next year! :) x

Centrally located, this historic (boutique) hotel had the most wonderful atmosphere and a fantastic experience. It essentially captured the essence of historic bath.
Rooms were well appointed and of the quality and comfort you'd expect of a high-end hotel.
The owners and staff were very friendly, knowledgable on all things Bath and fast/efficient service.
The food - brilliant! With fresh, local produce was so delicious.
We had the best possible experience staying here and highly recommend this hotel to any discerning traveller to Bath.

I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, thank you for your review. We work hard to maintain the friendly service and relaxed atmosphere of a traditional bed and breakfast amid all the hustle and bustle of central Bath - it's great to hear that your time with us was such a positive experience. It would be lovely to see you again if you return to the UK.

The quick version of this review is that you will not regret the choice to stay at this outstanding bed and breakfast!

Across the spectrum, this was the best B&B we stayed in throughout our two week trip around Ireland and England. In general, I was always seeking the best B&B I could find available in each location that could accommodate a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) and our traveling companions (2 adults). We stayed at some very nice B&Bs, but this one was the clear winner for its comfort, cleanliness, upscale amenities and location.

The Asher Suite is the room available that could accommodate our family of 4 the best. It has a large master bed and a twin in the main room, along with another twin in a second, smaller, room that stands between the main room and the bathroom. The room was massive and modern, but still felt warm and inviting with good charm. We liked every aspect of the furnishings and decor in the room and bathroom so much that we took pictures to use as ideas for when we build our own home. Though that may sound a little weird, they have thought through and provided a lot of little details that make the room a special experience.

The bathroom had little blue-white lights flush-mounted low above the floor that served as a night light. Instead of a standard switch to turn on the lights, there is a ceiling mounted pull-switch with a weighted and polished metal teardrop handle suspended in a perfect location just inside the door to turn on the main lights in the bathroom. The wall-mounted double sink has clean, exposed plumbing, and is a nice amenity when there are 4 people sharing the room. The shower was roomy, provided nice hot water, a high-end adjustable shower head, and clean doors and surround (including the corners and crevices that are normally the areas missed during cleaning). The tub was nice and well-maintained as well. The thing I noticed most was the wall-mounted toilet provided a form factor that emphasized cleanliness; the tile underneath is spotless and there is no toilet base to get dirty from use.

Clean is an understatement in this room. Everything was immaculate, and I am the type of person that generally notices very small details with cleanliness that annoy me; but there were none to be found here. Attention to detail is very evident here.

The information you read about this property being run as a family affair are absolutely true, in a good way. The primary caretakers of this property, Nici and Alan, are very warm and accommodating hosts. As we came over directly from Dublin on the ferry, continuing by train (using Sail Rail) to Bath, our arrival time was not very flexible. Though we got into town well after the preferred arrival time before 1700 - closer to 1830 by the time we made the short walk from the train station to the B&B - prior notice to the hosts were responded to with warmth and welcoming; Alan came over from their apartment just across the Abbey Green to get us setup with our key, provide a brief tour/overview of the residence, sign the terms of stay paperwork, and ensure we were established in our room.

The breakfast provided in the morning, managed, waited and served by host Nici was phenomenal. The menu selection was large compared to most places and Nici is very open to adjustment and/or combination of menu items to ensure that you get what you want. The food was top-quality and prepared just right. Nici's hospitality is warm, attentive, but not overdone. Here again, the breakfast room was relatively large formal space with clean lines and great decor, and cleanliness was above reproach.

Though we had technically checked out, Nici allowed us to store our bags in the residence while we explored Bath city for the day. The city itself is amazing and has charm and comfort, feels safe, yet is large enough that we could probably have stayed here many days exploring all there is to offer. The property's location literally a block from the Roman baths archaeological site was perfect, and the primary shopping strips are a very short walk further.

If I have to offer any downside, and I have to dig deep to do it, it's that the computer and internet connection provided in a common area for guest use is painfully slow. I needed to make train reservations and it literally took me over an hour to research my route and make my reservation because I had to wait so long for every page to load. On the grand scale of things, especially for a one-night stay, this is far overshadowed by everything else being next to perfect!

The price may be on the higher end of the scale to other properties in the area, but what you get from the way this place is run by the family hosts is an extreme value. When we return to Bath in the future, we will definitely be coming back to Three Abbey Green!

Room Tip: A family of 4 should stay in the Asher Suite

What a wonderfully detailed review, thank you for taking the time to make such thoughtful and generous comments! We make it our mission to provide the kind of welcome and hospitality we would like to receive when we are away on our own holidays, so it's great to know that we're doing a good job. I'm sorry to hear that you had such difficulty with the computer. We are aware that it has seen better days and are in the process of updating the whole system; we hope to have it replaced quite soon with something much swifter and more user friendly, to help all our busy guests planning their onward travels. I'm glad to hear you plan to stay with us again, it will be a pleasure to welcome you back.

Great location, very comfortable, and welcoming, would definitely return. Right in the centre of the city, best to park and walk to, had a nice room at the top of the hotel, Breakfast was excellent and the owner and daughter were very welcoming and helpful.

We are two friends that wanted a few days away to catch up on things and do some shopping. I had moved from Maidenhead to North Devon so Bath was a good place for us to meet up both traveling by train. We were given detailed instruction by email of how to get to the Hotel from the station which was only about 4 minute walk away. When we arrived, we were greeted by Sue and given the discount card fob with our key and a leaflet with all the companies that took part in the scheme, together with a map. Sue told us about the Lord Mayor Walk around Bath the next morning which was free and gave us a good idea of the layout of the town. We were in the Sycamore room which was good for us as it was very spacious and we had a great view of the huge tree from our windows. The breakfast was good with either fresh fruit, grapefruit or cornflakes, then a good choice of cooked breakfast and toast. All the staff and owners were very friendly and happy to talk if they had time. I had stayed in Bath a couple of years ago but the hotel I had been in then was up a one in four hill and nearly a mile from the centre of town. Three Abbey Green is so close to Bath Abbey and right in the middle of the town. All in all we had a great time and the only down side was that our suit cases weren't big enough to take everything home that we would have liked to buy.

Thank you for such a friendly and detailed review, it's great to hear that you had such a lovely time. I think it's a sign of a successful holiday when you go home with more in your suitcase than you started with, and Bath is wonderful for that. So many shops, so little time... We'd love to see you again - just remember to bring a bigger bag next time!

We stayed 4 nights in the Lady Hamilton Room on the first floor. The room and bathroom are very spacious and comfortable. We slept with the windows open just about an inch or two and were not bothered by any outside noise. Breakfast was very good as was the coffee. The location was central and easy walking distance to all attractions.

Having contended with the drive from London, and struggling navigating through the streets of Bath in the dark we were so happy to receive a lovely warm welcome from Alan on arrival.

We were given a fantastically comprehensive overview of Bath, such as where the main sites and places to eat were as well as the best times to visit and all of this before we were even shown to our room.

Our room was Old Plane Tree, and it really was worth the 3 flights of stairs from the basement to the top of the house! A, what I would call, huge bedroom with a lovely big bed, two very comfortable chairs and more than enough space to swing a rather large cat, I was very happy, and to top it off a spotless clean bathroom.

The breakfasts were delicious (and even offered veggie sausages for my other half) and with a lovely, friendly and personal service from Sue, making breakfast time a true delight - especially after a full English with no washing up to do!

Finally, the location was perfect for anyone wishing to explore Bath on foot, being right by the Abbey and the Roman Baths, it was just ideal.

Would highly recommend staying here to anyone, and will definitely be recommending it to my friends and family. We are already wondering when we might be able to come back as we didn't nearly have enough time in either Bath or this wonderful bed and breakfast.
