We stayed for 3 nights at the Halcyon having selected this hotel on the basis of good reviews and location. My husband has limited mobility so accessibility is always a major concern. The location was excellent and our welcome from Hector was warm and friendly. However, our room was a major disappointment. There is no lift in this Georgian conversion and we booked a studio (area with bed plus adjacent 'kitchenette') because that was the only type of room on the ground floor. The bed took up most of the space in the bedroom area and was so close to the built-in wardrobe that the doors couldn't be opened. A hanging rail had been erected on the other side of the room. The space between the corner of the bed and the wall on one side was 14 inches. Squeezing past meant hitting the bed or the plasma screen on the wall above it. The w.c. in the bathroom was jammed up against the wall on one side. The kitchenette provided a kettle, microwave and a toaster (I had to stand on a chair to reach the microwave and the toaster was further out of reach.) We made use of the kettle - didn't need a kitchenette for that. The complimentary 'tea and coffee' was minus coffee so we had to buy our own. The studio was described as a possible batchelor pad and undoubtedly it was more suited to single occupancy. At £145 including VAT it didn't measure up to other hotel rooms in which we have stayed.
