“Great place for the first time (tourist) visitor to stay in Bath”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2012

We have Hilton Hhonours membership and looked to stay at the Hilton in Bath, but found it expensive. Our daughter recommended The Halcyon and we were pleased that she did.
Given that we are used to staying in a Hiltonl the experience at The Halcyon was certainly different, but very pleasantly so.
The location of the Hotel was spot on for a first tourist visit to Bath and the staff were very friendly, especially Hector who gets full marks for also being so helpful and knowledgeable.
Breakfast was very good notwithstanding the lack of a cooked option.
The room was small compared to a Hilton, but was clean and comfortable.
I understand from other reviewers that some rooms can be noisy, so best to discuss this with reception before you book.
You should note that the Hotel has no onsite parking, but this should not put you off as there is parking, at a price, available below ground at a shopping centre nearby.
Subject to the above, I can thoroughly recommend this Hotel for a few nights on a first visit to Bath.

Finally, though nothing to do with the hotel, I would mention that Bath is not car friendly. We approached Bath by car from the (north) east and spent a great deal of time (fruitlessly) trying to reach the hotel through the centre of the city. Time after time we were met with one way systems and time controlled road closures turning us back the way we came. In the event we telephoned the hotel from the car and Hector kindly directed us in real time straight to the door of the hotel.
My advice therefore is to travel by train, if possible, as the hotel is just a short distance from the railway station.

Room Tip: Speak to reception before booking so as to ensure your room is not adversely affect by noise.

We travelled by train to spend 3 nights in Bath. The hotel was an ideal location as it was close to the station and also to everywhere that we wanted to visit. There is certainly a lot to do in Bath and we were n't disappointed! The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed the breakfast there and also we ate there one evening and the foot was delicious. Also just had to sample a cocktail too - lovely! Would definitely stay there again.

I booked this hotel as very near the station and we had travelled by train to Bath. We left our bags at the hotel whilst we went off to explore Bath with its truly amazing sites in full glory of autumn colours. I can't stress enough how helpful all the staff were. We were recommended local restaurants to eat at both lunchtime and evening and they turned out to be exceptional and just what we were looking for. Admittedly the room was small and at the top of the hotel but with good design you had everything you could wish for although the toilet was a little slow to flush. Once again I can't stress enough how brilliant all the staff were to make our stay most memorable .

I visited Bath and spent two nights at the Halcyon hotel. The hotel is situated in a brilliant central location for visiting Bath and all its attractions. The hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly, the hotel was tastefully decorated and the food very nice. Was a bit dissappointed with the tiny room though, also i would not recommend staying here if you are a light sleeper as the noise from the late night partygoers spilling out onto the street below from the bars and clubs is very loud. I love the city of Bath and would certainly stay at the Halcyon again.

Room Tip: I would advise not booking a room on the top floor as the hotel has no lift and there are alot of st...

Admittedly this hotel has a fabulous location in Bath. It is within walking distance of all the major sites, restaurants & shops. There is also public parking available (for an additional fee) close by. However, our room, 3.5, was extremely small, had a small window with no view, no closet, no drawers and no chair (only place to sit was the bed). Heat rises & since we were on the 3rd floor perhaps our room was warmer than others below but there was no AC only a fan. Since we only had one window I propped the hall door open to have some cross ventilation. We were not disturbed by noise from the surrounding streets. The friendly staff carried our luggage up the 3 flights of steep stairs (no lift) and even cautioned that we should use the back stairs because the front stairs were so steep. The bathroom was also extremely small but it was modern & clean. Americans don't forget to bring your own face cloth!
Other reviews have indicated satisfaction with rooms so perhaps if you discuss room location & size with the management when you reserve a room you will be happier with the value.
The Sotto Sotto Ristaurante was around the corner & was fabulous!

Room Tip: If you have any mobility issues you need to tell management when you reserve your room.

This hotel is a great find, well positioned for the centre of Bath, stylish, smart and incredibly friendly. The rooms are contemporary and stylish, while also being very comfortable. The Circo Bar in the basement is trendy and lively with great cocktails and wine and a friendly vibe. It turns into a cool breakfast venue in the morning. The staff were so friendly and helpful too which was great as they could help with the luggage to the 3rd floor as there is no lift

Room Tip: If you can't manage steepish stairs with your luggage, ask for a lower floor. The rooms were qui...

We stayed for 2 nights, was extremeley comfortable and welcoming - especially Sophie and Anna who looked after us and made sure we had everything we needed.

Gorgeous ample room and lovely hot shower. So close to Bath city centre as well and we thought parking might be a nightmare but nope, carpark opposite was perfect and no trouble at all.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel so the nightclub wasnt an issue and we had a Studio room so h...
