We spent a long weekend in the Cotswolds/Bath, and stayed at the Queensberry in a Deluxe Double Room for GBP255 per night for two of the three nights. If I had it to do over again, we would have stayed only 1 night at the Queensberry and 2 nights at the delightful Ellenborough Park hotel in Cheltenham instead.

Rooms
The room photos on hotel website are a bit misleading, as they clearly were taken when the rooms were newly renovated. The rooms today, however, are a bit tired. The light colored wall-to-wall carpet in our room was stained/discolored in places. The walls and trim could use some touch-up paint as well. Together, this gave the whole room a slightly dirty and 'cheap' feeling to it. [Advice to owners: consider ripping out the carpet and replacing with hardwood floors and area rugs instead.]

Bed
Another key disappointment was the bed. The king bed was not truly a king bed, but rather two twin mattresses covered with a mattress pad.

Bath
This one is a matter of personal preference, but I found The White Company toiletries really too pungent for use. I can't imagine any guy wanting to subject himself to this overpowering scented shampoo or shower gel.

Other
Wifi signal in our room was weak/non-existent, even though we were only on the 2nd floor, directly above lobby/bar. Nothing memorable about breakfast. Complimentary afternoon tea (tea only, no snacks) a nice touch. Location is fine, as the major sites are all a short walk.

All-in-all, a forgettable stay, and as a result, not at all great value for the money we paid.

We were visiting Bath and Salisbury for the weekend and stayed at the Queensberry for our first night in the area.

I have stayed in a fair few hotels and can honestly say that none have given so much consideration to customer service and the comfort of their guests. The hotel's website makes big promises, and we were pleased to find that the reality lived up to them in every way.

We were greeted at the front door by a friendly member of staff who checked us in and took us to our room, whilst our car was parked for us. All of the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and polite. On the day we left, there was heavy snow and the hotel staff retrieved our car, cleared the snow off of it and put the heaters on ready for us.

Our room was beautifully decorated and the bed was amazingly comfortable. It had all mod cons and all of the "little things" had been thought of, making our stay just perfect.

The hotel's central location meant that we could abandon the car and explore Bath on foot. We had a fantastic weekend.

The Queensberry is quite reasonably priced and I have already recommended it to friends. We did not want to leave!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your stay at The Queensberry Hotel.

I was delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us, my team work very hard to make every guest feel welcome and reading such positive feedback gives them a great sense of satisfaction.

Word of mouth is certainly one of the most valuable ways of learning about recommendations and I am really pleased that you have passed our details on to your friends.

I hope that we won’t have to wait too long for you to return to Bath and welcome you back to The Queensberry.

We stayed in a Superior room (a free upgrade) which was situated to the front of the hotel for two nights. Here are our thoughts:

Pros:
- Great location. However, you could stay somewhere slightly more central if this is important to you.
- Beautiful room – very spacious and tastefully decorated.
- The hotel is all-round pretty lovely, if a bit warren-like downstairs!
- Nice walk-in wardrobe area / luggage storage added to the feeling of space.
- Free spa kits for use at the Thermae Spa (saves you having to pay for them at the spa!)
- Free valet parking.
- Free tea (Teapigs) and coffee (only plain black + milk, you have to pay extra for e.g. lattes, cappuccinos, biscuits etc) in the lounge downstairs.
- Trendy feeling bar with nice staff and good drinks.
- Massive outside seating area with great furniture which seemed really under-used.
- The food and wine on offer at the Olive Tree restaurant is fantastic, if expensive.

Cons:
- Not convinced at the value for money that the hotel offers – it’s a good job that we only paid the Classic room rate for the Superior.
- We felt a bit robbed after our dinner in the Olive Tree – the 40% off food offer which was offered to us immediately after check-in (desperate much?) was actually 40% off a set menu offer rather than a straight 40% off food as implied, so you had to pay more for the dishes you actually wanted, thus leaving you with a more expensive bill than envisaged. It felt a bit dishonest and that they were just trying to get more money out of us.
- No tea and coffee making facilities or any other “freebies” in the room.
- The bathroom looked a bit tired the more you looked at it (e.g. the shower fitting was quite drippy and flimsy, stains on the marble floor, mismatched taps, strange toilet seat which didn’t really match the room).
- No conditioner in the White Company toiletries, only a 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner – one size fits no one!
- Cleanliness was ok: some of the seats and cushions were rather grubby.
- The duvet was far too hot. I mean, deep midwinter only!
- Because the duvet was too hot, we had to sleep with the window open – unfortunately, our experience was that Russel St is extremely noisy all night!
- Terribly thin feather pillows that offer no support.
- Heavy duvet + noisy street + terrible pillows = pretty much the worst two nights sleep my partner and I have had in any hotel. This ruined our experience at the Queensberry.

Thank you for your review, as hoteliers dedicated to providing our guests with the best possible experience, nothing saddens and frustrates us more than to learn that one of our guests had a less than enjoyable experience and did not take the time to tell us during their stay. The issues that you outlined with regard to bedding, noise and toiletries could all have been addressed and resolved very easily and swiftly, allowing you to relax and enjoy your stay with us.

We were particularly disappointed to read your remarks regarding the special offer which we gave you to dine in The Olive Tree Restaurant. I can assure you that this was given out of the desire to delight our guests and not out of desperation. The details of the offer are quite clear and in our opinion not at all dishonest, it includes our three course set menu which has three dishes per course to choose from together with a glass of Champagne for £30 per person (a saving of 40%) this offer is currently available via The Olive Tree Restaurant website and has proven very popular.

We are appreciative that you listed quite a number of “pros” including just some of the complimentary services we provide, it is a shame that despite this you feel that we do not offer value for money and you aren’t sure that you would return.

I would be delighted to discuss your comments directly in more detail and perhaps come to an agreement that would allow us the pleasure of welcoming you back to The Queensberry Hotel in the future.

We stayed 3 nights at Queensberry Hotel in Bath and were not disappointed. The place lives up to its great reviews. We had a long vacation in the UK and stayed in all sorts of places. Queensberry has the biggest rooms in the entire UK! And if the room is not convincing, you should try the bathroom, by far the biggest one in the country. I'm no expert in hotel star rating but I stayed at 4 and 5 stars hotels that were far worse than Queensberry and twice the price. The hotel is conveniently located close to most attractions (5 minutes walk only) and has a free valet service (again, what hotels do this in the UK?) which is very useful in a busy residential area. The décor is very nice, the room is clean, toiletries great, breakfast is decent and the staff is very friendly and helpful (thanks Vlad!). Not cheap but you get great value for the money. We're highly recommending this hotel, don't miss it if you're visiting Bath!

Room Tip: No need for a travel cot if you're travelling with small kids, the sofa in the room is good enou...

We only stayed 1 night, as we were travelling through to Cornwall, but we would gladly have stayed longer. This hotel totally exceeded our expectations in every way. It was like stepping back into Jane Austen's time. The room was huge, with the largest and most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The bathroom was spacious. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Valet parking was complimentary. Breakfast was included in the room price and was the best cooked breakfast we have had in the UK. The Queensberry Hotel gets our highest recommendation.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 2, which fronts the street, but noise was not a problem.

We spent 3 nights here at the start of our honeymoon and had a great stay. The hotel is lovely, located close to the Circus and Royal Crescent. It is only a 5-10 minute walk from the centre of the city.
We found the staff extremely helpful and welcoming. When we booked the hotel, I did it via phone, they were able to offer me a special rate which wasn't available on the website so we had a nicer room for a better price.
The hotel lends "spa kits" to the guests at no charge, complete with towels and dressing gowns, which was really helpful.
I would also recommend the restaurant, the food is amazing both for dinner and the breakfast, which is often a let down with most hotels.
I would highly recommend the Queensbury.

Congratulations on your marriage!

I am delighted that you chose to spend the first night of your Honeymoon at The Queensberry and I have shared your lovely comments with the team.

I was also really pleased that you chose to contact us directly to reserve your room, this allows us to get to know our guests in advance and talk to them about their visit to Bath. We always like to recognise special occasions and offer the best possible room and rate to meet your individual needs as well as give advice about the city.

We are also currently working on a programme of exclusive benefits which guests can enjoy when they book their stay directly with us and these will be on our website very soon.

I hope that you enjoyed the rest of your Honeymoon and I look forward to welcoming you both back to The Queensberry to celebrate your first wedding anniversary if not before!

We stayed for one night only, we just pulled up outside, and literally left the car in the road, they took care of the car and our luggage straight away, the room was small but very nice and cosy, the floor in the ensuite could have done with a scrub around the shower area as the grout was pretty orange, but overall it was very clean, Breakfast was really really nice, could not fault, i had the buffet (fruit and yogurt) there was lots of other stuff, but i followed that by the kippers and poached eggs, service was fast, and friendly, we went to the Spa and was given a bag full of bathrobe, towel and body wash, shampoo and conditioner, and body lotion,
if you hire it at the spa it cost £9 each, the only thing you didnt get was slippers, but you can buy them for £2.50 at the spa, we left our car at the hotel until we were ready to leave Bath, even though you have to check out at 11.30am, staff are very helpfull, food is very nice, If i were to return to Bath i would stay here again for sure

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at The Queensberry and I am delighted to read that you enjoyed your time with us.

Learning about the aspects of a guest’s stay that they particularly enjoyed or that could have been improved is often the best way for us to learn and improve. I was concerned to read your comments regarding housekeeping issues in your bathroom; I will personally be looking into this to ensure that immediate corrective action is taken.

I also found your comments regarding our complimentary spa packs very interesting. As a result I am planning to source slippers to be available as an optional addition for guests to take with them to Thermae.

Thank you again for your feedback, I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
