“Superb service!”
Reviewed 21 October 2013 via mobile

What can I say other than nothing was too much for the staff at Dukes! Michael looked after us so well as did all the other staff, need to swap a room? No problem! Need to leave your luggage before your room was ready? No problem! We were made to feel so welcome I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this lovely hotel and how great the staff were. Go meet them and enjoy!

Thank you for the tremendous recommendation. We feel that Bath is a wonderful city and that we are fortunate in being able to offer an ideal location for exploring her. We have a superb team of very passionate and committed people who like little more that to show off Dukes at her best and share the wonders of Bath with all who care to visit. Thank you.

We stayed just 1 night at Dukes and from the moment we arrived we couldn't fault the service and hospitality we received. Great recommendation for dinner at Raphael's! A five minutes walk to the centre of town gives Duke's an ideal setting for exploring Bath.

We experienced similar warmth, efficiency and friendliness with all staff that we came in contact with. Great restaurant recommendations and willingness to go to a lot of effort on our behalf to gain reservations in the very busy Bath food scene.
As other reviewers have mentioned the hotel is 200 years old and six stories high - so if you find steep staircases a challenge make sure you elect to have a ground or lower floor room.

Our room Montrose - was very clean and comfortable.

Breakfasts - as previously mentioned are of restaurant standard in quality and especially presentation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay - recommended.

Thank you for the very positive recommendation. The Montrose room overlooks Great Pulteney Street and offers a tremendous view of the Holburne Museum and the magnificence of one of the finest boulevards in Europe. Thank you for the review.

We stayed at the Dukes on Sunday 13th & Monday 14th October as part of my husbands 50th birthday celebrations. I choose this hotel in Bath based on the reviews that I had read on trip adviser, and the reviews certainly surpassed our expectations.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely special guests, especially my husband, the attention to detail and the little touches that they did for his birthday went a long way.
The hotel is beautiful and charming. Our room (The Wellington) was gorgeous with all the luxuries of a 5 Star hotel, we didn’t want to leave on the Tuesday morning. I can only reiterate what all the previous reviews state about The Dukes in terms of hotel staff, Location, Breakfast etc….. every word is true and I can’t praise this place highly enough. There was an unforeseen problem with the hot water on the Monday night, however the hotel staff bent over backwards to accommodate our requests and the owners could not have been apologetic if they tried, it certainly would not stop me staying here again.
My husband can’t wait to return to Bath and more importantly to the Dukes hotel, if you are thinking of staying here you will not be disappointed.

We love being involved with celebrations !! We often feel that having stood on Great Pulteney Street for over 200 years; Dukes would have so many stories to tell. Thank you for the very kind and positive review.

Location – a 10 minute walk from the train station, and just 5 minutes to the abbey, Dukes is located on the wonderfully historic Great Pulteney Street, recognizable from many films. Being a largely residential area, this means a much quieter, relaxing stay. Word of note, the entrance is on Edward Street.

Check-in – We were greeted warmly at the front desk, and our reservation was immediately to hand. The gentleman was friendly and welcoming (not the grinning through teeth fake sincerity one experiences at many hotels), and it really set the mood for our whole stay. We were offered maps and advice, and he made thoroughly sure we had everything we needed.

Room – We stayed in the Roxburghe room, at the top of the house. Be warned, if you have trouble with stairs, be sure and request a room on the ground floor, as this was three flights up. But that gave us a particularly English view over the cricket grounds and hills. Despite the age of the building, the rooms are both contemporary and classic, with fitting décor and design, but also the modern amenities you would expect; a TV with good channel line-up, and excellent WiFi. There is a fine selection of teas in the room along with a kettle, as well as bottled water and biscuits. Bathroom had a very modern power shower, and the toiletries were high quality.

Restaurant – We did not try the afternoon tea or evening drinks the hotel offers, but we were delighted with the breakfast. We chose traditional English, and were impressed with what was offered – locally sourced, very gourmet and cooked just right, not mass-produced micro-waved meats. Again, the staff was exceptionally pleasant, and genuinely interested that you have what you need.

Amenities – No real amenities in the hotel (hard to fit a swimming pool or fitness room in a house from the late 18th century), but they do offer packages with access to the nearby Thermae spa, and I’m sure the staff would be happy to help you with anything else you need. There is a computer with internet in reception.

Check-out – Different gentleman (not sure if it was the owner) checked us out, and despite it being close to 11, we were not rushed at all. As before, very friendly and interested that we had a good stay and that we had all we needed for our ongoing journey.

Cannot think of a single thing to criticize about our stay, except to say I wish it were longer. The staff are a shining example of how to treat customers. I would not consider another place to stay in Bath, and I greatly look forward to returning.

The hotel is in a great location for visiting tourist sites and Mike, I think the manager, is charming. The check in was speedy and welcoming, a parking permit takes the strain out of bringing the car and Mike gave us a good tip where to eat in the evening. The downside for us, however, was that we were in the attic 6 flights of stairs up and there is no lift. Not a problem for the young and fit but as one of our party had recently been unwell it was a bit of a bind. The attic rooms ( Bedford and ,I think, Richmond) are small and well appointed but terribly hot with no air conditioning and a small window opening. Our visit was in October so watch out if you are visiting in the summer. My tip would be to check what level you are on and if in the attic get a fan!

Thank you for your review and for highlighting that the Bedford and Richmond, both standard rooms; are up on the third floor. As a Grade 1 listed property we have no lift and in common with most Georgian properties have no air conditioning. With this in mind I think it is unfortunate that you found the room ‘terribly hot’ in mid October. Our rooms are described as clearly as possible on our website; over the phone we are always very happy to discuss location, access and the nature and features of each of the rooms and their suitability to the needs of our guests. I am very pleased to hear that you found our team charming and that our location was very much to your liking. With thanks.

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at Dukes. From the moment we arrived we were treated like old friends, fast check in, issued with a parking permit and shown to our room. We stayed in Roxburghe, a lovely spacious room with possibly the most comfortable bed we had ever slept in. We were given a hand written note congratulating us on our anniversary and a box of chocolates...nice touch. The breakfast both mornings was delicious and very well cooked. The location of Dukes is fantastic, a few minutes walk down a beautiful street to the center of Bath. I would not hesitate to return to this beautiful classic Georgian House.

Thank you. Great Pulteney Street is indeed a wonderful location and widely recognised as one of the finest boulevards in Europe. The Roxburghe, up beneath the mansard on the third floor is a lovely ‘tucked away’ private room . Our wholehearted focus is upon ‘bed’ and ‘breakfast’ – so – terrific that you enjoyed the ‘most comfortable bed ever’ and ‘a delicious’ breakfast !. We look forward to welcoming you both on your return to Bath.
