“Wonderful weekend in a gem of a hotel”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

My husband and I stayed in the four poster room. It was beautifully decorated, true to its period and very comfortable.

Breakfast was excellent, owners and staff friendly and welcoming.

A real gem, centrally located, easy to walk into town, worth a stay!

Delighted to read that you shared a wonderful weekend in Bath – a gorgeous city with so much to offer. Thank you for all the applause. Our four poster rooms, the Athol and Buccleuch do indeed offer a unique perspective on Georgian living. With thanks

We stayed here for two nights so we could enjoy a weekend in Bath. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Bath yet is quiet without feeling detached from the city. The hotel managers David and Amy are friendly and helpful and managed to book a table for us at a busy city centre restaurant of our choice. The rooms were comfortable and tastefully decorated and the hotel as a whole has a very civilised ambience. The breakfast was delicious, especially the genuine Stornoway black pudding! There are no lifts, but our luggage was delivered to and from our 2nd floor rooms for us. Parking with the hotel supplied permit was very easy. All-in-all, Dukes delivers tasteful, convenient value for money accommodation and we would have no hesitation in returning here next time we are in Bath,

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room if you have difficulty with stairs.

Lovely welcome. Charming and helpful staff. Spotless throughout. Room pretty and stylish (lovely thick towels and dressing gowns) with period features lovingly retained. restored - and very very quiet. Joy oh joy - parked right outside and could use Residents Parking permit! Would highly recommend. Staff warn you on booking about the stairs but there are rooms on the ground floor. We will definitely be staying again and wish the new owners great success - they and their colleagues certainly deserve it. Hooray!
(Cost us £120 for a double room B&B)

Room Tip: Ground floor if you have a problem with stairs - we were on the second floor and the exercise did us...

We enjoyed a lovely long-weekend at Dukes Bath for our wedding anniversary. It’s always great to find an independent hotel with friendly service and loads of character! We had an anniversary card waiting for us in our room and small gift which was a lovely touch.

The hotel is a five minute walk from the city centre, we took the train and had a twenty minute or so walk from the station and other guests were given street car parking permits on arrival. All of the attractions- the Roman Baths, Thermae Baths and famous streets are all easily walkable. We arrived in the morning to a very friendly welcome and left our bags so we could go exploring unencumbered until the check in time.

The decorations and period furnishings in our room had an oriental theme as did the dressing room. The bed was very comfy, there was a hair dryer, dressing table and plenty of room to get ready in the bedroom. There were two TVs with free-view channels and tea making facilities in the dressing room. When we visited there were a few hot water issues that precluded having a Bath but we both had showers with no drop off in temperature at all.

Breakfast included a continental buffet and cooked breakfast as well. I enjoyed the fry-up immensely thanks to the quality, local ingredients. Again all the staff and owners were very friendly and happy to provide advice on the long list of attractions. We had booked our restaurant and theatre night in advance which is worth doing if you are visiting over a weekend as the centre was very busy.

All in all a lovely stay I would heartily recommend!

Delighted that we were able to enhance your wedding anniversary celebrations. Dukes proudly stands on Great Pulteney Street, arguably one of the finest Georgian boulevards in Northern Europe. Congratulations on organising the restaurant and theatre at the same time as booking. A wise decision as the most popular seats in Bath are often booked well in advance! With thanks.

We stayed here for 3 nights on a city break in Bath. The hotel itself is in a Georgian building that is several hundred years old, which gives it a charm and history that ties in with the overall feeling of Bath itself. The hotel is located just over the bridge from the city centre, less than a five minute walk away.

The only downside to this was that we had to climb 52 steps (we counted them!) to get to our room. Our room was small yet spacious, but with a large bathroom. We had complimentary bathrobes which came in very useful.

Breakfast each morning was excellent, with a wide range of fruit, yogurt, pastries and cereal as well as hot options cooked to order. But what made this hotel so good was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, with one gentleman being very chatty, to the point that he was still talking to us as we walked down the steps and out of the hotel! But he gave us directions and recommendations, and remembered everything that we told him about us when talking to us the following day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, from procuring us cut price vouchers for the Thermae spa or sorting out our parking (you get a guest permit for the duration of your stay which enables you to park on-street beside the hotel).

Overall, it was just a wonderful place to stay and if we return to Bath, we'll definitely come back here.

My partner and I have just returned from a two night stay at the Dukes hotel. The location is perfect as it is near bath centre and all of it's sights, shops, bars and restaurants, the free parking permit is definitely an added bonus and you are able to park right outside the hotel. When we arrived the staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful, our room was the Montrose which was spacious, nicely decorated but most importantly very clean. There was a few toiletries in the room which were very nice and tea and coffee with some nice biscuits. Breakfast was excellent especially the full English and there was plenty of choice. I do agree with a previous review that the Dukes would benefit from a little bar, there was one down stairs but it wasn't pointed out to us by staff so I'm assuming it wasn't used. If we return to Bath we would definitely stay here again the hotel and it's period features were beautiful, however we would choose a room at the rear of the hotel as the road could be a little noisy at times.

Room Tip: A deluxe double at the rear of the hotel, it's stairs only so choose a floor which will be ok fo...
