My friend and I decided on a girly shopping weekend in Bath and fancied a little luxury thrown in for good measure!! I did my research and mainly due to the Spa facilities I decided to book the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel.

I managed to get a good price (£200 each for 2 nights bed and full english breakfast) and we were very much looking forward to our stay.

On arrival we were greeted by extremely professional and friendly concierge who helped us with our bags and then offered to park my car for me - have never had the luxury of this service before so was very impressed!!

Check in was faultless and our bags were swifly delivered to our room.

The room itself was a twin room overlooking the garden which was very nice and very clean (room 405).

Beds were comfy and there was plenty of room for 2 girls, our over night bags, several outfits and all the shopping bags we accumulated during our stay!!

Breakfast was delicious, stunning selection of fruit and pastries and the cooked breakfast was served on piping hot plates - yum!

The best part of the whole stay for us was the hotel's spa facilities and beauty treatments. We did book our treatments before we went and were very glad as they were fully booked!! Very friendly beauticians who performed miracles!!

The pool was very clean and very nice for a few lengths before indulging in the fabulous outdoor pool - which when we went in on Saturday evening was even more magical as it was snowing!!!

The steam room was lovely, we didn't try the sauna as a bit hot for us, the beautician suggested the ice room - where you rub crushed ice all over you before showering in freezing cold water - sounds hellish but was actuallly strangely good!!

When we checked out the concierge quickly brought my car back to the front of the hotel and even packed the car with the numerous bags we had accumulated over the weekend!

All in all neither of us could fault the hotel, and when we have our next shopping trip we will definately stay here - thank you to all who made our stay a very happy one!!

Room Tip: We decided to upgrade to a twin garden view room (405) for only £10 a night more - think we were luc...

The gardens are lovely although the footpath need attention. checkin was fine and the concierge very helpful.
View from the garden room was great but the room was disappointing for a 5 star; the ageing armchairs had long term grease stains on the arms, the sealing strip on the shower panel was brown with dirt and the bathroom vent was rusty. Bedroom lighting was dim only but the bed was clean and comfortable.
Despite the whirlpool being out of service , the spa facilities were above expectation and swimming in the outdoor pool at 38 degrees C while it was snowing was a great experience.
Dining room upholstery needs cleaning. Buffet breakfast was good with a great selection of fruit but for dinner I suggest the King William pub which serves great food and real ale in traditional surroundings 15 minutes walk away.
In summary, good but poor maintenance lets it down, not 5 star standard.

Great hotel, fab room, truly superb service, and excellent pool and spa for relaxing in (pool too small for proper fierce swimming). Thoroughly recommended as a comfortable, indulgent base for visiting a great city.

Room Tip: We stayed in the North wing- older part of hotel with rooms with big windows and high ceilings. Pref...

We stayed for one night at The Bath Spa Hotel in October 2011 and had a great time. We travel a great deal and stay in a lot of great hotels. We had a very smooth experience from the start from being greeted at the door and our bags whisked away for us to a delicious meal in the restaurant. Service in the restaurant was excellent - not fussy, but incredibly attentive and friendly. Breakfast is always my favourite meal and it didn't disappoint - a big buffet and constant refills of coffee. We didn't use the spa, but it looked very pleasant. Also, although it feels like you are out of the city, we walked in and it only took 15 minutes - best of both worlds. I'd highly recommend this hotel.

Odd start to our stay. A barrier has been erected across the drive: visitors/guests sometimes forget to get card from reception and end up blocking the drive. Rather frustrating. Our first room was nice, but had a lengthy walk and set of stairs to it. However, the room was cold and the heating didn't work (just made a noise). The room also did not have a directory of hotel services, which was a shame. Excellent night doorman came to see if he could fix (he couldn't) and with a little prompt took us to a second room that was close, but not too close, to a lift. room was good, if a little too hot.
Spa was excellent, but a little crowded. Had breakfast on last morning, expensive but excellent: worth doing once during a stay.
Almost five stars, but small details, including odd TV channel selections mean only 4 this time.

This was my first time in Bath, and my stay was fantastic. The hotel was beautifully laid out, with wonderful decor, and very helpful and friendly staff. The rooms themselves were very comfortable and spacious. I stayed in one of the garden rooms. The spa was wonderful, and I would recommend having one of the facials, because they were fantastic. Our group dined privately in the evening and the food was outstanding. I would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Garden rooms were lovely

Had the pleasure of staying for a night as a pamper night for my partner. From the drive up the tree lined avenue to leaving late the next afternoon everything was sublime.
Being met at the main door by a friendly but formal concierge who took our bags and showed us to a very friendly and helpful receptionist. Everything about this hotel is 5 star. The room was elegant and very well equipped. The restaurant and waiter service was fantastic.
The spa facilities and staff were also first class. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting that extra special stay
