“Not what expected for 5*”
Reviewed 10 December 2012 via mobile

Stayed overnight as a part of corporate event. We were told the room would be available from 2.30pm but when we arrived at 3.20pm were told it wasnt. In the end we didn't get in until 4pm with no offer of refreshments while we waited. We were keen to use the spa before the evening event and landed up feeling rushed which spoilt the experience. The spa was lovely if a bit noisy at times.

Room was fine with a good sized bed. Iron and ironing board provided. Refreshment tray not over generous and the uht milk was off but a jug of fresh milk was supplied on request. Major downside was that our room was linked to the next by an adjoining door. Not much in the way of soundproofing as we could clearly hear the guest in the next room snoring.

Breakfast was spoilt by having to queue while the two members of staff at the desk offered guests the opportunity to upgrade to full English and then took the payment before escorting them to the other dining room. Long winded and highly irritating to the long queue. When we were eventually seated in was in a corridor which appeared to be an overflow area. It was quite nice but because we had to wait so long it was a bit of a rush.

All in all a nice hotel but not quite as nice as we might have expected for 5*. Having to pay £5.00 car parking was also a bit of a rip off on top the room charge. We would like to go back but would look for the best price!

The spa facilities at this hotel are excellent, it is just a shame that the service does not match! My wife and I queued for 10 mins just to sit down for breakfast. Not because the breakfast room was full, but because the service does not work.

And I agree, since when does a hotel charge guests to park!

Back to the Royal Crescent next year.

We have stayed in this hotel many times but never again.
Service standards have dramatically declined and it looks as if money urgently needs to be spent on refurbishment, especially the bathrooms.
Our French Windows didn't even close properly.
Another niggle - why does a so-called 5 star hotel charge customers to park their car?
They never used to.
Do they really need the extra revenue?

This is a very good hotel but slightly lacking in buzz. Staff were friendly but actually could be more business-like. It is a matter of taste as to whether friendly banter is what you like but on a business trip this is not necessary. The room was not ready on arrival and was of a high standard but impersonal. An extra touch like a small vase of flowers might help. Hotel is not central. No experience of the spa facility.

We recently spent 3 nights at this hotel. The accommodation and facilities are what you would expect for a hotel in this bracket. Bed and pillows extremely good, bathroom clean but a little tired. We didn't use the restaurant at all so I can't comment on this, not even for breakfast, as we preferred to take a stroll into Bath where there are numerous places to have a brunch.
The main thing to consider is that if you are not bothered about using the spa facilities, which were clean and well organised, then it is really just another fairly upmarket hotel, and if you are not getting a special price deal it would really be a rather overpriced place to stay compared to many other hotels like this in Bath.
By the way, we found the reception desk staff to be rather offhand in their manner - this sort of thing doesn't particularly concern or annoy us personally, but some people might be a bit upset! Maybe the desk staff were just having a bad day, overall the hotel staff were very polite.

I don't know what to add to the excellent reviews already posted.... this hotel is delightful. This was our second stay here and we're already looking forward to another visit. Alll the staff are very friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble (even de-icing my car!). There had been a bit of a hiccup with the booking but the upgrade more than made up for it. The four poster bed was ENORMOUS and very comfortable!! . The buffet breakfast was really good - lots of choice and we never felt hurried. Service wasn't at lightening speed but we were there for a relaxing weekend..... and took the opportunity to chill!!
We too were in Bath for the Christmas markets - easy to walk to but away from all the noise of the city centre. If you want a really good comfortable hotel where you feel valued and well treated by the staff - you won't go wrong with this hotel.
