“Lovely setting, good service, nice spa”
Reviewed 8 March 2013

We were very lucky to be able to stay here using airmiles i.e. FREE ! Would I stay here if paying myself = possibly to probably. Lovely setting - nice grounds and clean, warm, semi-luxury interior. Rooms are spotless and well furnished with extras including Molton Brown toiletries. Many of the staff are exceptional in their dedication to service i.e. they just can't do enough for you, even if a little "over fussy" at times. The Spa is nice - not amazing; though I did quite like the outside very warm float and bubble area. It was a busy weekend with everyone here for the Bath Half Marathon and that's where some of the attention to detail got a little lost e.g. at breakfast with the Maitre D' too busy running away to the kitchen rather than sorting out the seating of guests; and no room in the restaurant that evening for us, even though we were staying in the hotel ? I know I am being a little over critical and I would still give this hotel 4 stars but not 5 (just yet) !!

Room Tip: Think about whether you might want a room in the new wing or the old; and what kind of view you can...

Stayed in the hotel for one night for a spa break with my Mum

Nice location with good parking...

Nice hotel, and a nice room with a real comfortable bed

Nice spa which was the main reason we stayed there

Good location, walking distance from the town where we went for a meal..

Would definitely stay here again if going to Bath, quite pricey but it was a special break...

We make an annual trip to Macdonald Bath Spa to coincide with our anniversary and we have never been let down by the hotel. It truly is a lovely place to stay. Our room was lovely as always. One of the reasons we stay at the hotel is because of the spa facilities. As soon as we've checked in we put on our robes and slippers and head for the pool. The hydratherapy pool is our favourite and we usually end up spending about 3 hours using the facilities. Our stay this time included dinner and breakfast. It was our first experience in the restaurant and the food and staff were faultless - every aspect of our evening was lovely. The breakfast was also superb with plenty to choose from. We will most definately be returning in 2014 if not sooner. Thank you.

The building and surroundings are very pleasant and well maintained so first impressions are very good.
I found the staff very polite and happy to help, so even though check-in was not before 3:30pm I was OK leaving our bags with reception as we had arrived at 12noon.
Had lunch at the hotel, again the staff were excellent, what got my attention and was to be the main issue of the weekend was the price of, well, everything... we had sandwiches which were £13 a pop and nothing special, probably below average I would say. The wine list is terrible and again far too expensive for anyone who knows the smallest amount about wine. We decided to have dinner out as I was sure we were not going to get Michelin star quality for the astronomical price of the hotel.

The following morning we had the breakfast, which was not included in our reservation. £20 a head, for breakfast! Very steep I thought so again expected big things. The breakfast is standard at best, maybe the single signature sausage they rave about on the menu is from an endangered swine with great eating habits, but i doubt it, nothing to call home about.

And so to the rooms, as you can tell, If I am paying 5 star prices for everything else I am going to be quite demanding of the room standards. Well this again was a big let down. For the record, the room is abosolutely fine, its comfortable, but that should be standard in a hotel. There were too many things that didn't work or were missing. This might sound a little microscopic in my testimony but believe me you will do the same thing when you realise what you are spending to stay a night here.

We travelled up from London so have a good idea of what expensive living is like but the final straw was my wife's nail treatment in the hotel which came in at least 50% over what you would pay in Mayfair for the same treatment.

It seems to me as though the Hotel said to itself "right, we are five star so triple all the prices..." but they have done this without providing any quality.

IF YOU STAY HERE IT WILL BE NICE JUST DON'T BUY ANYTHING IN THE HOTEL.

Hotel looks dated in several areas. The steps at the front of the hotel are crumbling which doesn't give off the best impression. The room was good enough, huge bed which was very comfy. Nothing stocked in the mini bar. Molton Brown toiletries which is always. For me the worst point was the fact that there is on site parking but they still charge £5 to park the car and £15 for non guests.

I went for a weekend with my family after getting a deal online. We had to wait ages to be checked in as there wasn't enough staff on the desk. After finally receiving our room keys they didn't work! As part of our deal we were to receive a complementary bottle of wine in each of our two rooms, neither of them had any. We rang up the reception who said they were sending a bottles straight away to our rooms, 8 hours later.. still no wine. They messed up the times of our spa treatments and didn't offer a refund so we didn't get our full hour.
The breakfast itself was exceptional (when we actually received it) however the service was terrible. We asked for toast and tea with our breakfast which didn't arrive till after we were finished and about to leave. We were waiting for about 45 minutes to check out because the queue was so long due to lack of staff and the doormen didn't offer to help with our luggage although thats their job! Throughout our stay I overheard 7 guests complaining also which didn't help! Would definitely recommend friends not to go there - waste of money.
