We booked the spa for our anniversary cos it said 5 star. I have been to many before trust me it was awful. The staff is very friendly and nice. It's not the staff it's the hotel that's bad. Broken bathroom and fungus on the mini fridge. We also paid extra for a garden view room . And that view is horrible. The location is nice but the rooms are very old . The curtain was falling off and the carpet was worn off . When I send a email to the operational manager woth photos she just completely ignored it but said it we are replacing the carpet . The spa nice bit again not upto standard . If your looking for a clean place which is the basic of a hotel his is not the place

I came here with my husband for the last weekend in Jan this year. I found the staff very courteous and friendly. The room was clean and nice, albeit a little dated. I loved the spa and would say that was one of my highlights. Breakfast was good and again, very good service. As it was cold we didn't explore the grounds of the hotel much but they looked beautiful and I can imagine that in the summer it would be magical. Would definitely recommend this hotel - especially the spa!

Room Tip: Great for couples

Celebrated family 50th birthday, booked 4 rooms. Concierge and front of house staff were very attentive, we were upgraded to a Sky room which gave a nice view of Bath roof tops. Room was spotless but tired. Several lights were out in the corridor so was dark at night and were not fixed for the 3 days we were there. We booked DBB, evening meals were well presented and restaurant manager Brian was excellent, informative and humourus, its a large room so atmosphere was a little sterile. Breakfast service was a little slow but we were not in a hurry, had to ask to clear plates away. Pool was smaller than expected for such a large hotel and very busy most if the time with members and guests, spa facilities were excellent, enjoyed the heated outdoor spa pool, although spa area was again in need of a refurb. It was niggling to be charged £5 for parking each night - not necessary when your paying £300 per night and service charges were London prices. Location is far enough away from city noise but close enough to walk into town so no parking issues. Would return but would look at other local 5 Star hotels or country hotels as well.

Room Tip: Upper floor Sky rooms give great roof top views of Bath

I was really excited to come here after all the good reviews. Welcome was good, room nice. Breakfast was a disaster, 40 mins and my eggs didn't arrive, no apology, so I gave up and left. Spa was good but very cold in the therapy rooms (apparently turning the heating on impacts the gym.) Overall disappointed and will never return.

Stayed for one night in February. Service was excellent right from start from porters opening door, fast efficient and friendly check in, to be shown round the hotel. Bags brought to room quickly, coats hung up in wardrobe. Didn't eat in hotel, but had drink in lounge after returning to hotel. Staff could not have been more attentive. Even the Manager spent a while chatting. Bedrooms are what are to be expected - comfortable beds, large bathrooms with Milton Brown bottles. Breakfast cooked to order with fruit and cereal buffet. Pool area good. Yes it's expensive, but it is what you'd expect from a 5 star. Will definitely be back.

This was our 2nd visit and will be our last to the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel. We spent 2 very cold nights and complained after the 1st night that the heating would not work in our room. We were promised that it would be on that afternoon and on returning to our room on the 2nd night (at 11.30pm) we discovered that it still had not been fixed and they had not bothered to warn us. When we complained again, they offered us to move to another room or they could supply an electric heater, we opted for the later as it was so late. The breakfast was a disaster and on the 2nd morning, we waited so long to be seated and again to get a cup of coffee, we walked out of the dining room without having breakfast. There were a few other complaints too. This Hotel claims it is a 5*, but it is not. When we left, the duty manager seemed to be very interested in our complaint, but could not understand that we paid nearly £300 per night for a room that was not heated and we were not happy. He seemed more concerned with the 'breakfast issue'. He did not offer us a reduction in price for the room, but said he would not charge us for the breakfast. What a disaster !

A beautiful hotel with a wonderful spa. Situated in wonderful surroundings and so close to the town. Staff are very friendly. Bedrooms are lovely and the beds are so comfortable. The good is very nice, every effort put in. Would definitely return.
