If you are looking for luxury, don't bother staying here. We spent two nights in a tiny cramped room overlooking the terrace where people were enjoying themselves loudly while we were trying to sleep. And why shouldn't they? They were on holiday but a five star hotel should ensure that guests are not disturbed by installing double glazing as sound proofing. The room was very small and in need of fresh paint, there were no facilities such as DVD or CD players. The bathroom looked clean but on closer inspection was dusty in corners and the wood panneling stained with soap and water from previous residents. The tea and coffee tray contained an obviously battered milk sachet which was yellow and stinking when we opened it. Surely these basic things are easy enough to check?
Breakfast was very poor. Firstly it was only a continental breakfast as standard (a full English would cost you a further £6) but the actual standard of the food was bad. There was one type of fatty ham and some individual pre packs of rubbery cheddar. Croissants were cold and a little elderly, but the fruit was good. On our first morning, it took the waiting staff four requests before I was given soya milk, when it arrived, the jug was only large enough to be useful for one cup of tea. I had already explained that I wanted it for my cereal. Twenty five minutes after my first request for the milk, it arrived in the quantity needed. No apology. My partner had the same problem with dairy milk which did not seem to come as a matter of course whit the tea. Resultantly, the tea was cold by the time the milk arrived. Same problem with toast, I won't bother to elaborate.
On departure we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay nor was there an offer to take our bags out to the car although there were several porters hovering in the reception hall. On the whole staff were distant and not particularly helpful.
The good points: The hotel is situated about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Bath so there was no need to take the car and find parking. The spa was very nice and the spa staff more accommodating.
To summarise, we would not recommend this hotel.
