“A great art museum in the city”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

We've visited several times over the years but are always impressed by its contents, the building - including a modern extension - and the setting of park to the rear and Great Pulteney Street in front. The Holburne is open daily and free of charge (except larger special exhibitions). There is adjacent parking, which although payable, is very useful in Bath!

The museum's permament collection includes some wonderful paintings (for example Gainsborough's 'The Baum Family'), silver and other objects. This time, we saw in addition a special exhibition, 'Characters', from the Arts Council collection...interesting, and made more so by a very well-informed gallery guide.

We ate in the restaurant/cafe, part of the rear extension. Food is of good quality, neatly presented, from a limited lunch menu.

Recommended.

Fantastic offerings from this beautiful Georgian building at the end of Pulteney Street. Walk around the very well presented exhibitions and then have lunch in the lovely Garden Café.

“Time out from the bustle.”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

BATH is a wonderful city, with a zillion things to do, you could never ever find yourself at a loss. But you can find yourself in need of somehing relaxing, and the Holbourne offers a chance to be quiet and enjoy the exhibits. It is free to enter, except for special exhibits and I love the walk from the city, where all along you can see the museum ready to welcome you at the end of the road. The staff are always charming and there is an excellent cafe on site. The grounds in which the museum sits are worth a visit and there are plenty of benchs on which to rest should you so wish. Opposite the Musuem is No.4 which shows a plaque advising that JANE AUSTEN lived here, so pop across and see that while you are here.
