It was a stone's throw from where we had rented a house. We walked by barely noticing the place until it rained and we scampered inside. What a lovely surprise. A really well maintained and thoughtful collection of portraits and silver wear. Like many English museums it is free which is always a bonus. The portrait gallery has a Reynolds and a couple of Gainsborough's. Who would have expected that? The Sydney Gardens surround the museum and are well worth a visit on their own. The museum has a café but we didn't try it. Lesson learned - don't walk past hidden gems, you never know what they might be hiding.
