“Charming rooms with excellent breakfast”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

We stayed two nights at the Kennard. It is a charming establishment on a quiet residential street, with an outstanding breakfast. Our rooms were on the top floor, which, be warned, is reached by a curved central stair. Our host and hostess insisted on carrying our bags up, but it could be a trek if you have heavy luggage. We like getting a bit of exercise, so rather liked having some stairs to climb. Very clean and well-appointed. The breakfast room is in the lowest floor with a delicious breakfast cooked to order. Excellent location. We walked with our luggage from the train station without a problem.

Third time staying in this fabulous hotel. Each time as good as the last. Fabulous breakfast. Highly recommended for a short break with a touch of class in Bath. Great central location 5 minutes from the Roman Baths and Pump Room.

We stayed for three nights recently at The Kennard and highly recommend it! It is in a great location on a very pretty Bath street. Bath is a wonderful place to explore on foot and everything is easily reachable from here. Though we were on the street side, it wasn't noisy. The room was good-sized (we got a superior) and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was very tiny--not a problem for us--but large folks might want to discuss their needs ahead of time as I imagine there is a variation among the rooms in terms of the bathroom set-ups.

The hosts are very thoughtful (though never intrusive) and Mary gave great advice about restaurants that would suit what we wished on particular days, not just generic recommendations. The breakfasts were, as other reviewers comment, superb. The food is of very high quality, very fresh and very well prepared and presented. For example, the tea served is loose leaf and there are many to choose from; there are also several coffee selections offered and coffee is brought to the table in a French press.

Should we ever go back to Bath, we'd stay here in a heartbeat.

This hotel was very nice, the owners were helpful and the breakfast was delicious and generous portions. Our room did not have not the most exciting decor but it was spotless, it was on the top floor so the view was great but it did get very hot- luckily a good quality fan was provided. The location very close to the centre of Bath. All in all a great stay and would recommend.

The hotel is centrally located and is an understated gem in a Georgian row house. My room on the ground floor had a shaving mirror (!) and a face cloth provided, a rarity in the UK- The decor of room 11 is fastidious with a nice blackout shade if you sleep late. The terrific shower and toilet are in a separate little area, with the sink fitted into a period cabinet. There is a good closet for hanging which also has shelves. An alarm is provided.
The hotel owners consisting of Giorgio and Mary do a strapping big breakfast from poridge to eggs in several forms; poached, scrambled or an omelet. There is fresh fruit, yogurt and cold cereal choices and many jam types for your toast as well as delicious array of coffees.
It's the atmosphere with all the artwork and the cleanliness that make of the backbone of this wonderful guest hotel. Copious information and maps are provided in the central entrance; there are umbrellas for the odd shower.
The bed was very comfortable and the linens smooth. Excellent room lighting, too.
Don't stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Room 11 is on the ground floor, so one can avoid stairs!

We have tried a number of places to stay in Bath and this is without doubt the best so far. It is truly excellent and the owners couldn't be more helpful. The room was lovely and the breakfast first class. We will definitely be staying there again.

We stayed for one night in "The Red Room". It was very clean & tidy, bed was comfortable & shower was great! It's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic with numerous choices of coffee & a locally sourced breakfast - kept us full up all day! Highly recommended.
