“Perfect !!”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

My husband and I have just returned from a lovely relaxing stay in Owl cottage - just what was needed ! From the moment we walked through the door it felt like home and an added lovely gesture of the table set up for afternoon tea with cake and a bottle of wine for us also to enjoy. The views were fantastic from the large windows. Despite the weather being very changeable after a very long spell of summer ! it was just a perfect retreat and can not recommend it highly enough for exploring this part of the world. We will certainly visit again ! A big Thankyou to the owners !

George and Helen have wonderful cottages that are so well equipped and are immaculate. I have stayed in Badger and Owl and they are superb. You have your own patio area for a summer BBQ, there is a kitchen/ lounge and a wonderful whirlpool bath. The views are spectacular, we watched the balloons from the balloon fiesta glide across the sky, it was mesmerizing!
The cottages are close to Bath and to Bristol and there are lots of things to to do very close to the cottages. We first visited nearly 10 years ago and have been back a few times since. We will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Hare is at the front with good views, Badger and Owl are together with a lovely patio and good views...

We stayed in Hare barn for a week while helping our son and daughter-in-law and friends move house in Bristol. We couldn't have asked for a better sanctuary to return to in evenings after tough physical days. The barn is perfectly situated for Bath and Bristol in wonderful countryside with amazing views and lovely walks from the doorstep (shame about the weather!). We only met George and what a kind accommodating farmer he is! Letting us check in early on our first day was such a help as we had a long list of chores awaiting us in Bristol. We would love to return to the peace and comfort of this lovely barn when our time is our own!

We stayed here in mid June, having stayed the same week back in 2005, not long after they opened. We had Owl Cottage again, which is perfect for 2. We didn't find the lack of washing machine an issue, unlike other reviewers. Internet would have been helpful, but we managed with 3G. The kitchen area is well equipped, and the home made biscuits and wine are a lovely welcome! Comfortable bedroom, and nice bathroom. We liked sitting at the table for meals looking out at the stunning views.
Yes, the road up is rough and narrow, but we never met another vehicle. The previous trip we met George and his sheep once but simply waited for them to go into the field. Loved watching the sheep go by on my birthday while opening my gifts in bed! Saw our first live badger coming back after the theatre one night.
Loads to do in the area. We went to a number of National Trust places as we're members - Lacock, Stourhead, Tyntesfield and Dyrham Park. Also the SS Great Britain and Clifton Suspension Bridge, the Discworld Emporium at Wincanton as I'm a Terry Pratchett fan! Several trips to Bath, of course, including lunch at The Raven, lovely, and afternoon tea at the Pump Rooms.
All in all, a great week, and I'd recommend Coombe Barn Holidays.

I found Owl Cottage at Coombe Barn as a last minute getaway for a four night stay. George, the owner, gave good directions and I had no problem finding it. There is parking right in front of the cottage which is halfway up a hill and offers great views across to Bristol and the Black Mountains of Wales in the distance. On arrival there was a bottle of wine and cakes for afternoon tea and the cottage was warm (central heating) and very clean. There is a gas 'log burner', a jacuzzi bath, a dvd/cd player and a hairdryer and plently of tourist info for the local region to plan days out, plus games and jigsaws for rainy days in. The acommodation was all on one level with lots of full length windows to take advantage of the views. The location is peaceful and for anyone who likes walking a 15 min walk up the hill past Kelston Roundhill will take you to the Cotswold Way. During my stay I visited Bath, Wells, and various NT properties and had a fantastic holiday. I will definitely be back.

I love coming to coombe barn!! The views are amazing! The chalets are clean, comfortable and provide a great place to get to bath, Bristol or the country side. The service is very friendly and family run. I can not recommend highly enough.
