When I made the on-line booking I selected the option of a river view if available at £10/night. On arrival, I was told "good news" you have a river view. We were given room 353 and it overlooked some Air Conditioning units, a dilapidated shipping container, some pallets and some items of discarded furniture and assorted rubbish and an expanse of flat roof. The river could not be seen apart from a glimpse through the trees and only part of the river at the bridge was visible if one leaned out of the window. The flat roof of the lower storey obscured the rest of any view of the river. I made a mental note not to pay the surcharge for the river view and then, while settling in, realised the room was next to the service lift and the noise from that was loud and intrusive. I complained at reception and was moved to room 409 and was told the river view surcharge would not be charged, and a good job too because the river view is not amazing from that room either, you can't see the bridge because of the angle of the building and the flat roof of the lower floor of the hotel doesn't look very salubrious, although being 1 floor higher I concede the river was visible. The check in staff dealt with me in a polite manner albeit that it it took them a while to identify a vacant room that was not next to a lift shaft and I was told I would not be charged for the river view. There was a great deal of noise in the early hours from other residents on the 4th floor which I slept through but my partner did not. Arrival in a car with luggage was not easy as there were cars occupying all the space on the double yellow lines (the same vehicles were there for the duration of my stay). There is no defined set down area, only Disabled Parking spaces and the Disabled Parking spaces extend all the way along the front of the hotel and were occupied, not all by disabled drivers. You need to have a designated set down area and marshall it. The arrangement with the Podium Car park should be explained fully on your website. The steps leading from the car park to ground level were filthy, surpassed in squalor only by an inner city underpass. On checkout it appeared that I was going to be charged for the river view except that my partner on being asked how she had enjoyed her stay made her views clear and then I was told there would be no surcharge by way of recompense (so I was going to be charged even though I had been informed on the occasion of the first complaint that the charge would be dropped in compensation for the inconvenience/lack of satisfaction?). I got the impression that tidiness is only addressed at a few appointed times and not on a 24/7 basis. When walking through the ground floor on the way to the stairs I noticed napkins on the floor, uncleared tables, strewn newspapers; the ambiance was more Motorway Services than a Hotel. It took a not inconsiderable time to check in/out or make enquiries at reception due to queues. Perhaps a dedicated desk for a concierge/general enquiries would speed matters up ? In summary, Premier Inn at Ritz prices. Must try harder.

After travelling europe for 6 weeks my partner and I were really looking forward to a stay at the Hilton Bath in the south of England for a little bit of pampering luxury whilst enjoying relaxing city of Bath. Upon our early arrival of 10.30am we were told our room wasnt ready but would be at 3 pm which was fine as we set about touring Bath, we returned at 5pm ... room not ready ... placed us in another room .. ok these things happen ....room was a route march to get to and once we opened the door 2 single bed. The hotel assistant Simone was fantastix he quickly found us another room and great view over the river and was.most suitable. Next after taking a shower only to discover no towels ... 20 minutes later they arrived ummm not very professional
Breakfast adequate but very different from all our other Hilton stays. Oh no free wifi in the rooms and management NEVER acknowledge with their review replies obviously its not passed on to directors of the company especially 72% of reviews complain about this particular issue come on guys this is not acceptable in 2014
Would I return sure the staff are very good and location excellent

We only spent one night in Bath, so this hotel met our needs. As in all European countries, the rooms are much smaller than in the States, but this room was adequate. When we arrived, one of the elevators was out of service, and the other was quite small. So, we ended up having to take the stairs two floors up.

Thank you for your review whilst travelling in the South West of England. We are indeed very fortunate with our city centre location and being so close to all the local attractions. We apologise for the inconvenience of a lift being out of service at the time of your stay. These works are essential maintenance work and with such work, there is never an ideal time to carry these out within the hotel. Your patience and understanding regarding this were very much appreciated, thank you. We hope to welcome you back at some point in the future.

This hotel is very close indeed to the City Centre with its great shops. The room wasn't the largest, but perfectly adequate. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent, as was our dinner, and service was good. The bar staff were attentive. Very helpful reception staff.

For a hotel built in a city with so much rich history and architecture going back to Roman times, the criticism that it received when newly built, is probably somewhat deserved. It has a rather a bland 70's exterior, and the rooms are small with little character, though everything is clean and well taken care of. As well, the hallways are long and winding - our first room was 3 long hallways away from the elevator! When we switched from the twin room to the double, it was much closer.

In the double room, the bathroom had no bathtub, but there was a very roomy semi-circular shower. Perhaps it is a custom in Britain, but we found it strange to have the toilet paper holders very close to the floor. Another interesting feature was the touch laser lighting on the mirror... in keeping with the disco era, I guess. We had great bath sheets, a full array of toiletries, even a bathroom scale! You will note from the pictures that the two rooms were very different.

We had a large in-room safe, comfy duvet, flat screen TV, iron and board- but tiny closets- and coffee making amenities. The staff was very good about helping us change rooms and getting us additional glasses. In our second room, though it was more dated, it had an interesting curved shape to the counter space which served as a great make-up area close to the mirror.

The hotel was close to all the attractions of the city downtown (Cathedral, Roman Baths), easy walking distance. There were several comfy sitting areas in the lobby.

The best part was the view from our room.... the hillside in the distance, the Avon River in the foreground, and the city in between. We could see the shops on the Pulteney Bridge (much like the Rialto in Venice or the Ponte Vecchio in Florence). And it was a full moon rising in the east! That would be worth the price of going back!

Room Tip: Ask for a high room facing the river.

Celebrated my birthday in Bath and we stayed at the Hilton. Joanne Blakey, Reception Manager, could not have been more helpful and made our stay extremely special. Would like to thank Joanne and the other staff for a very high quality service. We would certainly recommend the hotel and use it again ourselves in the future.

Even with GPS, finding the hotel was not easy, as it is down a side road. Once found, the room was spacious, with large beds and even a river view! There are a few pubs nearby, as well as the Baths and the Cathedral. Elevators are a bit small. Parking is rather expensive, and involves negotiating a tight parking garage, but it is right under the hotel.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a Plaza room with a river view.
