“Small room and bed but comfortable”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Pros:
- Good wifi (and free)
- Convenient location
- Breakfast was great - had made-to-order omelette, toast, etc. and lots of juices. Definitely among the best hotel breakfasts I've had
- Good service (albeit with a small group of overworked front desk staff)
- Comfortable, clean room

Cons:
- Small room
- Small bathroom
- Small bed

Given the tiny size of the room, I would be interested in exploring other options in Bath - i.e. those with rooms that are a little more spacious!

Thank you very much for sending in a review following your stay at The Francis Hotel Bath. I am pleased that you had an enjoyable stay with us. We have three main categories of rooms, starting with our Classic Rooms, which are the smallest of our rooms; it may have been one of these rooms that you stayed in. Please ask us for rates for all categories should you come to stay in Bath again.
Kind regards - John Willcock

We have wanted to stay here for many years and at last we did it. Well worth the wait. An elegant refurbishment has recently been completed and what a great job they have done. Room small but very comfortable and well equipped. Staff very professional and keen to please. Receptionist did one of the best check-ins I have ever had. Hotel very central and convenient all the things we go to Bath do.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Francis hotel. Our room was a little small, but big enough for the two of us and our case. The bed was nice and comfy, we had plenty of tea and coffee provided. The bathroom looked newly fitted, however the shower flooded every time we used it, so we lost several towels to the floor. The shower head also kept falling off.
We booked room only, so can't comment on the breakfast or evening meals. The location was brilliant - easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see, plus there were nearby restaurants and watering holes. The room has plenty of character, but was let down by the shower.

Thank you for your comments; I’m pleased you had an enjoyable stay in Bath. It is such a shame your time with us was marred by a faulty shower, however, I hope you will return at some point in the future.

This was the first time we had been since the hotel's major refurbishment. They have done an excellent job. Hotel is now very smart, rooms were splendid, very comfortable beds, nicely fitted out. Staff all very professional and friendly. Car park is fine if you know where to find it: it is expensive at £15 - is this the hotel's charge or fixed by the council? We ate out so cannot comment on the food. The breakfast charge is steep and we didn't think we could do justice to it at that price, but found an excellent café in Northumberland Place. Looking forward to returning...

We went to this hotel over the Easter holidays - so granted it was a busy time of the year!

We stayed in one of the feature rooms so in excess of £300 per night we were pretty excited before we arrived!

This hotel is in a great location, lovely building - though in itself it is a bit of a folly as it is a very skilfully designed hotel which is not original to the site...but lovely as it looks onto a square in a very good location for exploring Bath.

The rooms are not enormous, but they have lovely bathrooms - though the one we had had a shower and no bath- I always like both!

On the downside - the room is noisy !! Every time the people walked about upstairs we heard everything and the time you realise this... You are in bed so unlikely that you are going to get asked to get moved. The newspaper we ordered never arrived and the breakfast was slightly chaotic as they had run out of lots of the basics and the staff had not got round to replenishing these- there was a queue of complaining customers hovering round the continental breakfast section by the time we arrived! In their defence I think they were short staffed but it wasn't slick service.

When we went to check out and explained about the noise levels we asked if we could leave our car in the car park for an hour max so we could pop to the royal crescent - we were advised that this would result in an additional charge for that day.. Personally I think this is false economics as it leaves one with a bad taste as it is already an expensive hotel it should be included within the cost of one's stay.

We had a lovely time in Bath but I was not blown away by the Francis and I am not busily planning my next visit to this particular hotel - which is a shame as it promised much.

We came down from Northampton at the weekend for the rugby. From the start we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff and the hotel and room were very comfortable with some interesting and slightly quirky decor. Breakfast is excellent with no waiting and lunch at Brasserie Blanc on the Saturday was very good (see separate review). Location is another bonus with Bath Rugby, shops, restaurants and tourist locations all within easy walking. We will be back for the Saints game next year.

The Francis is in an ideal location to visit the majority of attractions in the City on foot: I hope you enjoyed the game. We look forward to welcoming you back for the next Bath v Saints game, if not before.

I stay here every few weeks for business. Usually to break up the monotony of the other major chain hotels (Marriott, Hilton etc). Some of the rooms can be a little on the small side, and the desk may be at a weird angle as the floors aren't level....but it all adds to the charm. The staff are very welcoming and the breakfast is a highlight. Great location with wide range of restaurants on your doorstep.
