Over the years I've stayed in this hotel a number of times, always for business, and I've found it suited my needs. However, on this occassion we chose it for a night away with the family. Two rooms booked, four adults, a dog and a 3 month old baby.

As often happens with hotels that welcome dogs you are given a room that hasn't been decorated for a long time towards the back of the hotel, out of the way of other guests. Perhaps that what we should expect but no price reduction is ever offered and no warning provided when the booking was made. Our son and his family also had a bit of a trek, through cramped corridors, narrow stairways and across various floor levels, not easy carrying a baby and all it's 'kit'.

The hotel is tired and showing it's age. It's age, however is it's main attraction. A good looking and impressive building with character but desperately in need of some loving care. Whilst we were there the place held receptions for two weddings and it appears that is where this hotel's focus is aimed. With a good backdrop for pictures and some nice grounds I can imagine it is popular.

We didn't eat at the hotel during the evening as we thought they'd be over-run with wedding guests, instead we went to the Hop Pole Inn at the bottom of their drive (I believe it is also owned by the hotel) but their restaurant area was also fully booked by wedding guests. We ended up eating in a not too comfy corner of a very crowded public bar!

I guess the current economic situation prevents too much money being spent on the hotel's upkeep but in not too many years time I am sure it will mostly get below average reviews.

We had our wedding here on the 23rd June and the hotel is amazing. The staff are so helpful and friendly it was just the perfect location for our wedding. The food all day was brilliant, nice and hot and plenty of it. Most of the family stated at the hotel with us and everyone commented how lovely the rooms are and how lovely and clean it was. We had the honeymoon suit out the back which was bliss, lovely comfy bed, great shower and a lovely balcony to enjoy a cuppa on with my new husband before going down for breakfast. Love, love, love the hotel and we will be back for our anniversary.

Room Tip: I saw a lot of the rooms when I was arranging the wedding and they all looked great and had been rec...

We are New Zealanders who live in Australia, so we do not have the history of England and we were blown away with staying somewhere that has such a long history. We found the staff very pleasant although they could improve with a few more smiles and interest in their guests, however the barman at the time was lovely. The pub down the end of drive was 15th century (hence outside toilets as another reviewer complained about, but to us it was all part of its charm). Meals were beautiful and plentiful - no need for starter. Overall we had a lovely night in surroundings that were gorgeous. Room was on a slant, four poster bed, free wi-fi, clean and modern bathroom, tea and coffee in room. Will remember our stay here.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a view of the country side

The Limpley Stoke Hotel is a very beautiful building upon arrival. It looks absolutely lovely and inviting. The is a very traditional pub at the entrance which is very good for food. This is especially good if you are looking for a traditional beef and ale pie, yum!.

The hotel is very cozy when you enter. The reception is small but the staff are friendly and welcoming. Our room was no. 17 and it was very nice. There was a 4 poster bed and beautiful view overlooking limpley stoke and the train station and garden. The room was large and the bed very comfortable. Our bathroom was small but adequate with a good shower and nice products. Towels were refreshed everyday.

Breakfast is very good with a good selection of cereals, fruit & a buffet of an English breakfast. Everything you could want just help yourself.

The bar was also very nice. The bar staff were good, as were all other staff.
We stayed here for 2 nights and is a short drive to Bath city. It is also conveniently located for drives into nearby towns and villages.

I recommend this hotel to couples, families, tours and business people alike. There is a very nice conference room at the front and I would love to use it.

Thank you for your excellent review we totally agree that our hotel which is part Georgian is a beautiful Country House set as it is in an area of outstanding natural beauty with stunning views across the Avon Valley and beyond. We do indeed very soon.receive many compliments on the meals served at our traditional country pub, the Hop Pole situated at the end of the drive. We look forward to welcoming you back

Upon our arrival we were literally speechless with how beutiful the setting was. I would like to point out that at a very reasonable rate of 79.20 for a double room we weren't expecting the Ritz however this hotel had a very country manor feel and first impressions was very good.
Our room (29) was one of the newly refurbished rooms and the view over looked the valley - again we couldn't have asked for more, the bathroom only had a shower however we were not interested in a luxury bathroom and were happy to trade for a room with a view.
We then set off for a drive in our car (taking a left outside the entrance) and were met by some beutiful little english countryside and some romantic little inns along the way.
All in all the hotel was good as we had a nice room with a superb view however I was shocked by the lack of investment on the decor - If someone gave this property som TLC ...albeit an expensive facelift...this hotel would have the potential to be an all year money earner. I even thought if they had a spa it would be a perfect girlie get away. We enjoyed our stay but it was definately a 3 star hotel.

Thank you for your kind comments I am delighted you enjoyed your stay.We are indeed an old building originally Georgian with Victorian additions all contributing to the Country Manor house feel we aspire to.As with all old buildings we are constantly upgrading and whilst as you say we are not the Ritz we provide exceptional value for money in a magnificent village location on the outskirts of Bath.If we were to invest to the level you suggest I am concerned we may lose our olde worlde charm and more importantly would have to charge more than the £79.20

We booked the hotel for our wedding reception on the strength of the location in the beautiful Avon Valley, their grounds and the attractive features of their reception rooms. They do weddings as a large part of their business, it seems, and can have 2-3 a week especially over the summer. Their wedding package is affordable but clearly set out, you can see what you are getting and no hidden extras like so many others. We stayed the night before and went to the Hop Pole where we managed not only to get a table but the friendly landlord moved them around so guests who happened to arrive could sit with us too. The pub is a lovely charming old building - yes the toilets are 'outside' but that is not uncommon in the UK, the log fires are lovely and the food excellent, though not 'cheap'.

In fact they were excellent on the big day, they have done it so many times they knew what they were doing, and even though we had no clue, never having got married before, luckily they had it down to a fine art! Some of the run up to the wedding was a bit tense and we worried it could all go horribly wrong, but on the day it all came together perfectly. The ceremony and reception rooms were beautifully set out, clean, bright, attractive. The welcome to guests was excellent, and every guest said they felt relaxed and informal. The feedback we have received so far is that it was the best wedding they had ever been to, the atmosphere was so welcoming. Many guests stayed overnight - be aware rooms may not be available until 3pm on the day. One small point - we stayed the night before and had a lovely 4 poster suite. Mid way through my wedding preparations I had to move rooms to the bridal suite so we could change over the rooms - this is not great when you are a bride getting ready, in dressing gown and curlers! In fact the 4 poster room (5) was much nicer than the bridal suite and I would much rather have stayed there.
Breakfast the next morning was lovely, relaxed, the staff didn't seem very clued up as our guests had actually had a table reserved for them but no one knew. Reception staff and the wedding hosts are very friendly and helpful but waiting staff didn't seem so focused on customer service. The breakfast was excellent though, and the dining room seemed cleaner and brighter.
I would recommend this hotel for the green views and some of the lovely refurbished rooms. It has faded charm and a friendly atmosphere, and I would certainly recommend them for weddings as they helped make our day absolutely perfect!

Thank you for your extremely kind comments regarding your very special wedding day here at the hotel which is indeed a very popular venue with many Brides who are looking for that perfect day. We do indeed have the pleasure in hosting many wedding receptions and Civil Marriages throughout the year, each one being equally important to us and all very special. It is very pleasing therefore to read that your guests thought this to be the best wedding day they had ever attended. Once again many thanks and all of us at the hotel wish you the very best for the future together.
