“room with a view”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

A nice looking hotel, located in amazing settings. Staff polite and food ok. Room over looked the service area of the hotel, with an extractor fan sounding like a jet engine located by the window. Being hot you want the window opened, only to be deafened. Spoke to a member of staff about it, and told it stops at 10pm, it certainly did stop. Failed to mention it started again at stupid oclock. Have driven 500 miles and got to drive another 300 miles, all you want is a good night sleep. If that is what you want dont have a room facing the back of the hotel (as half rooms do).

Room Tip: Get a scenic view room

Many thanks for posting a review regarding your recent stay. Being in an area of outstanding natural beauty provides a wonderful setting for the hotel and fortunately the majority our rooms have the benefit of superb scenic views with only a few having an aspect to the rear of the hotel and gardens. We are naturally concerned to hear your comments regarding noise from an extractor which has not come to our notice before. So thank you for bringing it to our attention as we are now investigating the possibility of a fault within the ventilation system.

Room Tip: Room 55 at the top of the house, views are lovely.

A friend and I stayed here for one night. We absolutely loved the outside, as it is beautiful and quaint. The room was roomy and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was a nice size too. The hotel is older, and could use some upgrades, but it just added to the character and charm of the place. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The only negative for us was the breakfast, as we didn't think it was very good. I would stay here again, but would grab breakfast elsewhere.

Dear ghbeachgirl

Thank you for your recent review, I was delighted to read that both you and your friend enjoyed your stay with us and found the hotel very welcoming.

I was very pleased to read that you ‘absolutely loved’ the hotels exterior aesthetic. Like you, many of our guests truly do appreciate the Georgian architecture of our period property, which we feel does add to the overall character and charm of such a traditional building.

I was a little surprised to read your comments regarding breakfast, many guests positively comment on the quality and presentation of our breakfast offering. We offer a traditional English breakfast or a continental breakfast, along with many items and dishes available prepared to order. I was however happy to see that you found our dedicated team pleasant and helpful.

Thank you for choosing the BEST WESTERN Limpley Stoke Hotel, I hope we have the pleasure in welcoming you back again soon.

We stayed here with the kids for 5 nights. The place is lovely and as long as you book a room with a view it's beautiful. Rooms very clean and fairly well equipped. Usual gripe of grotty cheap hair dryer (why do hotels do that!) and it had a rather small bed. Otherwise comfortable and spacious.

Most staff were helpful and courteous particularly at breakfast and in the bar. Bar menu food was actually extremely fresh a and better than expected Only one problem when a barman who wasn't English started telling us how awful the English were and how we didn't know coz we'd not seen it all! No manager was around or I'd have passed this on. I notice that the trip advisor posts are always responded to which is a great touch. If this attention could be replicated in there actually being a manager more visible in the hotel that would also add something. There may be a manager on duty but they are not visible. In 5 days we didn't see anyone. Not a massive complaint but a way it could be lifted. .

Main thing I'd say is that although the place is beautiful it doesn't really reach its potential. I know they need to keep it in the period but it could still do with a lick of paint and 'cheering up' a bit. The corridors, carpets and particularly the dining room furnishings look drab and a bit sad and lacking in atmosphere.

So in summary a lovely place and mostly good staff but it wouldn't take much to just uplift it to its potential and make it a lot more welcoming and warm.

We were booked into here when our initial hotel was affected by flooding. I was hard to find even with the sat nav. Lovely pub at foot of drive. Room was fine but hotel food was disappointing, mass produced, unimaginative, but then they seemed to be catering largely for coach loads of tourists visiting Bath and Stonehenge. Building nice from the outside but tired on the inside.

Dear Marc V

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. Firstly I would like to thank you for your comments regarding our very own 16th century inn ‘The Hop Pole’ I will be sure to pass on your comments to the manager and his team.

I was however surprised to read your comments regarding your dining experience at the hotel, I would like to assure you that all our restaurant menu dishes are cooked to order using locally sourced ingredients and the menu is updated regularly to ensure quality and variety.

The Georgian City of Bath and surrounding areas are a very popular destination for visitors from the UK and around the world and we cater to all guests. As most hotels worldwide we on occasion accept group bookings, however these bookings are catered to individually and we ensure that all our guests receive our first class customer service.

I was glad to read that you found the hotel exterior aesthetically pleasing and we are very proud of our historic Georgian Building, every care is taken to maintain our period properties traditional features and rooms, whilst ensuring the original grandeur is never compromised.

Thank you for choosing the BEST WESTERN Limpley Stoke Hotel, we do hope we have the pleasure in welcoming you back again soon.

My boyfriend took me here on a surprise weekend for my birthday in November! Unbeknown to me, he had sent the hotel an email saying how the whole trip was a surprise etc and if there was any possibilities of an upgrade, as there were no options online when he booked it! When we arrived, the lady of reception informed us that we had been upgraded to the bridal suite, which she stated as "the best room in the hotel".
Our room was huge and so was the bed, it was clean, comfy and very very spacious. It was also the only hotel with a balcony, and the next morning, we woke to some of the most breath taking views I have ever seen from a hotel. It was simply amazing.

We attended as part of a wedding party. The grounds are beautiful! The bar staff helpful and great with kids, the waitresses I found a little arrogant though, otherwise this would have been a 5. The rooms are plush, comfy beds, everything you need. Highly recommend for a bolt hole whilst visiting Bath or for a special event. The food we had was amazing. Well presented and excellent taste. Wine is rather pricey, but it was nice wine so I don't mind. The toilets (mind the step!) were clean, well presented and the best sized mirror in the world.
