Fantastic location - very close to the centre of Bath. Opportunities for a great view over Bath should you be lucky enough to get a "view room".

Paid the extra money for a "superior" room - can't really see what the extra money gets you over your average travel lodge. Unfortunately our room had a terrible view, obscured by part of a brick wall...a little disappointing!

Fortunately we can't fault the service - very kind, polite and helpful, Especially the Scottish lady.

Would recommend it and would probably return. Wouldn't pay the extra cash for a superior room though!

Just back from The Lansdown and a Shearings visit to Bath. Although oxygen is needed to walk back up to the hotel (we could have taken a bus, the 31 is regular, but decided to walk) I would like to say we enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much. As has been said before, the staff were super, very helpful with information about the town etc. Our room 103 was very large, probably because it was a disabled room. Clean and fresh towels every day. The room was dated but renovation work is going on(we could smell the paint) so I am sure it will be nice when completed. The dining room was lovely and with all Coast and Country the public rooms always seem to be better than the bedrooms. No complaints about the food and breakfast was plentiful for a days sight seeing. We have stayed in many Shearings hotels and this one is in our top 5.

We have just come back from a 4 night stay. We had a comfortable, well equipped room - 205.
The hotel was clean, well organised with excellent staff. It has been quite a while since we have been looked after so well by exceptional staff who really want to make your stay enjoyable. Standard of food good.

The hotel is conveniently placed with a bus stop right outside. The no 31 bus takes you into the main shopping area minutes away from the main attractions. It is not worth trying to drive into the town as the traffic system is challenging.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good value break.

Room Tip: We were at the front of the hotel but still slept well

This is a great Hotel of real charm, that will benefit from the extensive renovations being carried out. Situated ideally for a visit to Bath, where parking is impossible. The Landsdown Grove is about 10 minutes downhill walk into Bath centre and taxis and busses readily available. We enjoyed a newly renovated Ambassador room that was spacious,a large ensuite with bath and separate shower and excellent wifi signal. We enjoyed half board, with an excellent change of menu each evening, and full breakfast every morning, and a very reasonable wine list. A very special thank you to Mr Richard Gerencser, who was most professional and a great help in arranging our online booking, our checkin on arrival, and local advice.

This was the second time we've stayed here so we knew what to expect. The building itself is very elegant as you approach from the main road and we had reserved a parking space in advance which is a must as there is very little convenient parking nearby. The reception area and in fact all the public rooms are nicely presented though dated in style. The restaurant is spacious and the tables are not close together, it was never full while we were there and the breakfast and dinner times were convenient and allowed for a relaxed eating experience. The food was good and courteously served. So far so good. Our room (number 104) was very spacious, clean and equipped to a reasonable standard with flat screen t.v, hairdryer, phone etc. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had a great nights sleep. Negatives were a drab dark brown carpet with white stripes that really was tasteless though it appeared unworn was very 1960s in style and wooden furniture that could be described similarly. The wallpaper on one wall appeared greasy ans paint was slitting but clean. The real shock is the en-suite in that room because the bath is rusty inside and out and the room needs totally gutting and replacing. To be fair that room was also very clean. Despite this our two night stay was very enjoyable, the bar was well stocked and the front of house staff without. exception were excellent. I would return but I would be specific as to the standard of room l expect when booking. You are expected to pay in full before arrival, (I don't wonder Why!)

My wife and I went with Shearings to Bath from the 19/23 May and stayed at The Lansdown Grove Hotel. The hotel is situated at the top of a steep hill but the 31 bus runs every few minutes to the centre of Bath and back again, if you find the walk too much for you.
The hotel does need a a good facelift but there is something quite quaint about it. Our room was 312, right over the main road opposite the bus stop so it was quite noisy but to be honest we've been in worse. You just have to get on with it and it was clean and tidy and a nice view of Bath. After fighting 3 rounds with the shower we finally conquered it. The lift was something to behold with it's carpeted walls and no more than 3 people allowed in it.
The staff were a credit to the hotel. Nothing was too much for them .They were so pleasant and well-mannered. The food was excellent and the staff were always on hand asking you would you like more toast, tea, etc.
As people have said there was no entertainment as such but it was nice and cosy in the bar and most of the Shearings people joined in for a good natter. We went on a couple of trips out, Cheddar Gorge, The Cotswolds and Bath itself. All in all we had a lovely time.

Another very enjoyable midweek break from Shearings[our third this year]
The Lansdown grove was all we wanted,
good food well presented
a warm comfortable room with magnificent view over the city of Bath[top floor front facing]
a bit of a climb up to our room, but with the help of two sherpas, and oxygen we managed.lots of hot water, and the room was really light and airy, well worth the climb.
Staff excellent, always a greeting and very efficient.
No entertainment at night, but this gives a chance for some pleasant conversation with other guests, and after a full day out,and a drink the eyelids begin to weigh heavy, time then to meet the sandman. All in all a very pleasant week THANK YOU ALL AT THE LANSDOWN

Room Tip: top floor front facing rooms, excellent view over Bath
