We were planning to have a relaxing childfree weekend away but unfortunately our room was far from relaxing, it wasn't very spacious and incredibly stuffy as we could only open the window about 5cm!!! Although the bed was comfortable.
We chose to eat in the restaurant on our first night, bit of a mistake as the menu was very limited and I struggled to make a choice however I chose the Pollock which I was told came on a large bed of salad but when it arrived the only salad to be seen was thinly sliced cucumber sitting between the warm fish and warm lentils! If I had known it would be on lentils I wouldn't have ordered it! The service we received during our meal was pretty poor, it took about 20 minutes to be shown to our table despite other guests being shown to theirs! Whilst waiting we asked to see the wine list but they couldn't find it! It actually took four more attempts to finally see the wine list! Plus we had to ask if we could actually sit at our table. They were clearly very short staffed and incredibly disorganised, we felt like we were getting forgotten about, hence we didn't eat in the restaurant on our second night.

The next morning we went down for breakfast which was a much better experience being greeted by helpful and smiley staff however the menu was a little odd and not really to our taste they seem to be on a healthy eating regime! If you like sourdough you'll be ok! However our second breakfast encounter wasn't trouble free we were back to feeling forgotten about. Firstly we walked into the restaurant and were greeted with virtually all the tables covered in dirty plates etc so we were told to wait by the cold buffet whilst they were cleared, we waited about 10 minutes and again like our first night other people were taken through to sit down so I asked the restaurant manager if we could possibly be seated to which she apologised and said she had forgotten about us! They had more than enough staff but again were incredibly disorganised and there were constantly tables been left with dirty plates so others couldn't be seated. The cold buffet wasn't replenished for the late arrivals and at the bar there was either no clean glasses or no orange juice at the help yourself station.

The grounds are very tired looking and really need attention they weren't particularly inviting. For the amount we paid we unfortunately won't be returning

This hotel is situated in very attractive surroundings with a lovely driveway up to the hotel. There was heavy snowfall for our stay and it was disappointing that the drive had not been heavily gritted or ploughed. We ended up using a room inside the main house which on the whole was good. On that note- ensure you go for the main house. Food served in the evening was very good and we enjoyed taking a walk into the grounds. We had a good night's sleep due to the peaceful location.

However the website is misleading. It describes itself as having spa facilities, including a swimming pool and an environment you can relax in, but none of this was adequate for my stay. Staff at the spa were disinterested and unfriendly. The pool was cold and there were not enough deck chairs to go around so no way of staying around to relax. Neither the sauna or steam room worked at all. We used these facilities for the best part of five minutes which felt like a great waste of money. Very poor overall.

As a hotel on its own right it would have come recommended but not as it stands.

I stayed here with my friend for one night on our weekend Bath escape. The hotel is set in THE most gorgeous surroundings, just outside Bath; woodland, countryside and blue skies (we were blessed with lovely weather!) as far as the eye could see.
The hotel reception staff were extremely welcoming on arrival, and showed around the bar and restaurant before showing us to our room. We stayed in the main house but there are other rooms located on the grounds (near to the health club).
There’s not lift in the hotel, but only two floors to scale!
The house is immaculate and the decor is modern and clean yet sympathetic to the age of the house. Our room was an attic room, but spacious and well equipped with a large king size bed, tv, lovely tea and coffee making facilities (so refreshing not to see Nescafé and typhoon tea bags!) and a bathroom with a great power shower and bath! The views were spectacular from the bedroom window overlooking the grounds behind the house!
The food was superb. Breakfast was cooked fresh with the standard full English, as well as avocado on sourdough bread with poached eggs as well as homemade granola etc. And the pastries were lush! We also ate at dinner at the hotel and again, wasn’t disappointed. We both ate the lamb which was divine, as was my starter.
Top notch hotel, would loved to have stayed longer to utilise the facilities of the health club and pool

Went away with my friend for my birthday for a couple of nights. Such a beautiful hotel, as soon as we arrived we loved it. So peaceful and relaxing. Our room was stunning and we had a spectacular view. Very clean and I was very impressed that they re filled the tea and coffee daily. The breakfast was very yummy with lots of fresh fruit, yoghurts and you could have a fried breakfast which was delicious. Best bacon and eggs I’ve ever had! You could even order breakfast in bed which was the icing on the cake! The staff were very well mannered and professional. Thankyou to John who was lovely and even went out of his way to help us with a dilemma. And enough Thankyou to the maintance men for help us with the car! So grateful for that. The country club with the gym and pool was great to! Really big gym and the pool had an amazing view where you could sunbath! Just had such a great time and can’t wait to go back! Overall really great value for the money and it’s only a 10min drive away from the city centre!

We found a "special deal" and booked - thinking the price included dinner - wrong!
My own fault, I should have read the offer more carefully! We decided to go anyway and retained the booking. After looking at the menu on- line I became nervous because we are not 'green' or 'healthy' eaters and one can see the menu is a tad eclectic.
The hotel is tired, dull and needs loadsa money spent on it, lots of it! It has a Spa with health club, pool and tennis. The food was the problem: Loads of spinach, pulses, half-cooked veg, quinoa, polenta - but no potatoes. 'He' ordered steak "blue", it came pale pink skinned outside and cold inside with white fat, the veg was way under-cooked broccoli stems. The next night the couple at the next table returned their meal due to a meat problem, but we, being stuck for what to order, ordered the lamb; up came strips of the worse meat I have ever been served - I think my mum would have called it "scrag-end" and only made stock out of it - it was tough and inedible, it was served on a bed of quinoa, spring onions and sauce.
At breakfast we both asked for fried eggs only to be told "we don't serve fried eggs, you can have poached or scrambled" when we asked "why on earth not" we were told "chef thinks they are not healthy", even thought there were 5 pats of butter to go on our toast - odd that! So 'he' had overcooked scrambled eggs and I had poached with more spinach and baked beans, this made my meal very 'wet'.
The room is architecturally poorly designed with small windows (which only open a crack) so not making the most of the lovely views and location, and the room is extremely stuffy and does need the fan, which is kindly supplied, to be left on all night.
Sorry guys, we wont be back because, although we did not mind the obvious need for a large cash input to bring the hotel up to scratch, and the team were ALL very kind and attentive, we do like our bacon and fried eggs.

Room Tip: Maybe try for an in-house room
