We were surprised at this review. We're sorry if you feel misled about the ordering of newspapers.
We provide free papers and magazines for guests' use but all guests are asked if they require a particular paper of their own. We then order this and deliver to their rooms. No guest has ever expected not to pay for their personal choice of papers - and these guests' papers amounted to over £4.00 during their stay.
We also dispute that we are expensive - rooms at the weekend start at just £70.00 per person for bed ( king-size double), en-suite bathroom, full English breakfast, including a glass of Buck's fizz, free car parking and all taxes. For central Bath, we believe this is excellent value for money in newly refurbished rooms. For other guests reading this review, I do urge you to make some price comparisons to confirm this for yourself.
I do wish you had mentioned this matter at the time of your stay so we could have apologised in person to you.
While touring with friends, chose the Villa Magdala for a four night stay. It is well situated - close to everything, but in a quiet area. The new decor is very well done - tasteful, contemporary, but in keeping with the style of the building. The breakfast is excellent - the "usual" plus some very interesting and tasty additional choices. The people are friendly and very helpful. The back garden is a nice asset as well - in nice weather!
Thank you - we're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. The garden is a great addition but sadly the weather meant that we couldn't do all that we wanted to - so next year it will be really impressive! You'll need to come back!
With parking and free wifi Villa Magdala became home for two nights. The staff were very welcoming and served afternoon tea as we checked it. This is truely a beautiful house, an amazing staircase and fantastic rooms. Our room although on the top floor was quite eazy to get to because of the easy make up of the stairscase. The room was extremely comfortable and very accomodating, light and fresh with a lovely view of the park. The building outside doesn't do justice to the interior, the hospitality and the excellent breakfast, cooked only when you're ready. Villa Magdala is only a short walk to the centre of town, a great location. We have stayed in a number of B&Bs in England and this is our no 1, there is no other as good as Villa Magdala.
Wow! Now you have given us something to live up to! Thank you for such a kind, generous review.
We stayed here for just one night and wished we'd booked for longer! Every aspect of our stay was just perfect. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and attentive. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was unbelievably good, with such variety and clearly an excellent chef. And the location of the hotel is just perfect for exploring Bath. We're coming back soon!
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay - and our chef was delighted that his skills were evident to you! Thank you so much!
Great location for visiting Bath. Upon arriving at Villa Magdala we were greeted with the offer of complementary tea or coffee and a piece of cake. We were then given a map of Bath and some advice on what we could do during our stay. The staff couldn't do enough to make our stay as enjoyable as possible! My only criticism was the shower in room 25 which was far too feeble to provide a satisfying shower, oh and the fact we never say Billy the dog once!
Thank you for the kind review but sorry to hear that your shower wasn't powerful enough for you - we have pumps on all the showers so usually the pressure is really good - possibly another guest may have turned the pump off thinking it was the heated towel rail. This has happened before although it is something our housekeepers normally pick up.
Billy is usually about although he normally snoozes in the office whilst guests are around as his favourite trick is to try to make it over to the park opposite to meet his doggy friend Basil. But he is always available for an audience if required!
He says come back soon and he'll be ready and waiting!
We stayed here for one night as a break from the kids! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room (room 4) was spacious and clean. Breakfast was delicious. We walked into town in the evening (took 5 minutes) - staff recommended places to eat. We visited the Therma Spa during the afternoon and again got some useful information from the hotel staff. This is a gem of a place- we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bath now.
Lovely review, thank you. Glad you had a restful break away from the children! We are really well located for a short stroll into the city centre - really close but not too close to suffer from noisy bars, taxi ranks etc. We do hope you come back soon!
