We had a lovely weekend at Villa Magdala. The staff are so very helpful and welcoming from beginning to end they are a credit to the place. A nice cool drink on arrival and as our room was ready we were able to drop our stuff off earlier than expected which was most appreciated. The location is brilliant and the bonus of a decent size car park a real plus.
I appreciate that the garden shown in a previous review is not one used by guests but it's a shame it can't have a bit of a makeover as it does look rather unloved. However the two gardens that are for guests are lovely. The breakfasts are fantastic one of the best we have had staying at a hotel or a B & B, such a great selection. We stayed in a better room which was great but a bit smaller than I imagined it would be. We will definitely come back but will book a best one next time! Where was Billy?!

Great review - thank you. The part of the garden you mention is now being planted up with fruit trees - so we can grow our own plums, apples etc for the fresh fruit compotes we make - and a rhubarb bed too! See our blog for photos - coming shortly!
Billy? Well, he was learning to get his sea legs! Photo album to follow!

This is a very good hotel, good central location in a wonderful city, but we were disappointed to learn that because we booked online (booking.com) and received a discounted rate, we were expected to pay for breakfast (£12 each) as well as parking (£12 per night). Parking is well worth it as there is limited on street parking in the surrounding area and they have their own lot, but we went out for a great breakfast 10 minutes walk away and paid only £13 between the two of us. Should I be treated any differently by a hotel simply because I book online? If they cannot fill their rooms they should be happy to have me there!! Alternatively, why not have an all-inclusive price because all of the add-ons just serve to annoy customers. Call them directly rather than book online.

Of course we were happy to have you stay with us! You can easily book on-line through our own web-site where we offer a Bed and Breakfast rate. We only offer Room Only through third party booking agencies and this is made very clear, before you book on these sites, and in the confirmation that you would have received from them. Indeed, to make sure that guests are aware of this, we send a further e-mail asking guests to check their confirmation. Some guests are unaware of the very high commission payments we have to make to these organisations - we are just a small independent business so we do hope most of our guests appreciate how tough it is in this difficult economic climate.

As for breakfast, of course there are cheaper options available in the city. However, for the benefit of other guests reading this review, I would like to point out what we offer for £12,00 per head - A glass of chilled Buck's Fizz, a glass of homemade smoothie, unlimited juices including freshly squeezed oranges, a huge fresh fruit bowl for you to help your self, unlimited cereals,a choice of yoghurts and fresh fruit compotes, a choice of ten generous freshly cooked main course items, unlimited freshly baked pastries, unlimited toast and preserves including homemade marmalade, and unlimited freshly ground coffee and a choice of over 10 teas. Not sure you would have got that for the £7.50 per head you paid - we try to offer excellent quality and value for money and that may mean not being the cheapest! Oh, and no 10 minute walk either. I do wish you had tried it to see what we offered.

Thank you for your positive comments - its appreciated!

Stayed here for the Bank Holiday weekend. Could not have asked for more when we finally did arrive. The staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble for any one there. The location is superb and the actual hotel is amazing. The beds are sooo comfortable and the rooms are spotless. The breakfast is lovely and my other half said they were the biggest and best kippers he had ever eaten !! Would definately recommend a stay here. Had a great time in Bath made all the better by staying here. Thanks to you all.

I've passed on your comments about the kippers to The Dartmouth Smoke House - we think they're amazing too!

So pleased you enjoyed Bath so much - its a fabulous city and we are really well located to ensure you are close to all the best bits, but quiet enough at night!

Please do come back - and many many thanks for being such lovely guests!

I stayed here with my friend in December. I have to say, that if I ever am lucky enough to get the opportunity to head back to Bath this is the first and only hotel I will be looked at staying in. We were travelling on a budget, however this was out ‘splurge’ hotel and I am glad we did! We selected ‘Best’ twin room when booking directly through the site. Great thing about this hotel, onsite parking. If you know Bath you will understand what i mean! Book a hotel with onsite parking as Bath has some of the worst parking you will find. The hotel had an amazing location, it was not far from the Pulteney Bridge, Abbey and Roman Baths at all. Also, nice and quiet neighbourhood.

The exterior is a beautiful building built in the bath stone. It felt like we were staying in some rich mansion which was quite fun. The interior of the lobby and hallways were beautiful with a stunning bookcase wall paper. There is a restaurant on site where you are served breakfast (Included in the price!).
We were taken to our room which was up a few flights of stairs but thankfully not the top with the weight of our suitcases. Sadly there are no elevators in the hotel, however I don’t believe this should be the main reason you choose not to stay here. Our room was huge! There was so much space, they could of split it into two and created a second room. The beds were extremely comfy. The hotel offered free wifi however we didn’t get the best reception on our room, but that was all fine.
The breakfast the next day was amazing. Great choice of buffet foods (e.g. cereals, yoghurts, croissants, other pastries) and then you could choose something hot from their menu. I had eggs Benedict, which was AMAZING!
All in all, this hotel was one of the best I have ever been too. Their service from the staff was incredible and the high quality that was shown again and again in their rooms and building was fantastic. Defiantly recommend this hotel to anyone who has a night or more in bath. Only downfall was that we only had the one night and not more time.

Room Tip: Definatly splurge a bit and choose a 'Best' room, you wont regret it!

So pleased you enjoyed your stay with us - and allowed us to spoil you a little! You're so right about parking in Bath - it is a night mare so our car-park is a great facility for our guests.

We are a period building so a lift is impossible but we are always happy to help with luggage - if its really heavy then it may take us a little time but it will get to your room eventually.

We hope you come back to Bath one day, so we can thank you personally for such a great review!

From the time you walk in the door you are made most welcome. Even when checking in, refreshments were offered. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the bed was luxurious. The breakfast was most filling and the staff could not have been nicer. Very easy walk to the town centre. Beautiful building. Will definately recommend.

Room Tip: Booked through tourist information centre in Bath. Most helpful.

We had a lovely stay at Villa Magdala and would recommend it highly. The room was very comfortable and exceptionally clean. The breakfasts were excellent and my favourite part of the day! The staff were very friendly and attentive. It is only a short stroll to the centre of Bath but on a peaceful road so ideal. Next time I pop to Bath for a day's shopping I will have to stay overnight.

Lovely review! Thank you. Many of our guests comment on our location - we are just a short stroll to the city centre but on a quiet residential road so no late night city noise. And enjoying a few days away is easier with a good night's sleep. Please do come back again.
