“Bit dated, but reasonable value for money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2012

Apart from being a bit dated in virtually all areas, this Hotel is, we feel, reasonable value for money. The "superior room" we chose was adequate, but if the normal rooms were any smaller, we wouldn't have been very happy. The central position is excellent and saved us from even considering taking a car, as its immediately opposite the station. It was rather noisy, due to its position, but no more than expected

Room Tip: Higher floors shoul be less noisy, but only if you can get a superior room

Dear Guest
Thank you for your comments.
The Royal was designed by the famous Mr Brunel in 1846 and we have used professional
interior designers to ensure that the fabric and colour scheme is in keeping with the era.
I appreciate some guests prefer very modern plain painted walls etc and that is to their own
personal taste.
May I thank you for staying with us here at The Royal Hotel.

Kind Regards

I stayed in Bath June 2-3, 2012. The accommodations were decent, although a bit pricey for what you get. The room was small, with a twin-sized bed. The room was clean, but stuffy and dark -- the windows were not positioned to get much natural light and the lighting in the room was not terribly good.

On the other hand, the hotel had free WiFi and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant at the hotel was good, but overpriced. It's also right across the street from the train station, which is extremely convenient for train travelers. The room was also very quiet.

I gave it three stars rather than 4 because the room was so small, stuffy, and dark. And it was a bit pricey for what I got.

Thank you for your lovely comments.
I was surprised to read that you felt our restaurant was expensive. As well as our extensive
A la carte menu there is a set price menu available until 7.00 p.m every day with choices.
This menu is offered at only £9.95 for 2 courses. Alternatively you can have a 3 course meal
from the A la carte section for only £22.00 and this is available anytime.
When you consider our bedroom prices with other hotels in Bath of the same standard
we represent good value for money.

Kind Regards

The Royal Hotel saved us from having an incredibly stressful and disappointing weekend away. Lovely, polite helpful staff who bent over backwards to accomodate us. Breakfast was tasty and the breakfast staff were great, rooms were clean and comfortable with tasteful decor, staff were excellent. Thank you for making us feel welcome and assisting us with our accomodation disaster. The bus tour was informative and we enjoyed the Pump Room where we had a superb meal accompanied by wonderful jazz music. Thank you once again especially to Mike MacDermid and team.

We stayed here one night, the bed was probably as old as the roman baths, the springs squeeck everytime you or your partner turns. We found it expensive for what you get.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review. I can confirm that over the last four years we have invested
considerably in the property to maintain our high level of customer service and standards.
This includes replacing all of the mattresses in each of the bedrooms. Our housekeeping staff
undertake regular turning of the mattresses as specfied by the manufacturers guidelines and
they are also checked at that time and any issues are reported should they occur and acted
on if required.

Kind Regards

We were with a coach tour, and had a lovely five days. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts and dinners excellent We had a room at the front of the hotel, this was very convenient for the stairs and lift. It was lovely to have mineral water provided and a good selection of teas and fresh coffee in the room. The hotel is close to all the sights and shops in Bath. We had a most enjoyable few days.

4 of us stayed at the Royal for a pre-wedding shopping weekend. It could not have been better. Right opposite the brand new Southgate Shopping Centre. I have stayed there before on a few occasions and they are constantly updating and improving this lovely old building. The room we had was wonderful and very spacious - brand new bathroom, sofa, massive wall mounted flat screen tv. Everything was fresh and new, including the carpets and lovely relaxing decor. Fine attention to detail including complimentary mineral water, chocolates, a wonderful range of teas and even a cafetiere and fresh coffee in the room. Dinner was delicious - Smoked salmon to start with followed by steak, the others had similar and one duck which looked fabulous. We treated ourselves to a bottle of their house champagne and found it incredibly reasonable and delicious and beautifully served. Breakfast was excellent - a choice of prepared peeled, sliced fresh fruit plus large bowl of individual fruit, mueslis, yoghurts, honey, fresh buttery croissants and pastries and the full range of cooked breakfast from eggs benedict to full english ..... the list goes on! The staff throughout the hotel were charming, polite, friendly and helpful. Couldnt rate it highly enough and all at an excellent price for the weekend. I will be going back!
