On the whole a great stay, the room was clean and reasonably quiet, even though the railway station is across the road, and from our window we could see the platform! The only noise was at 7.30am each morning when the staff of the hotel seemed to be throwing empty bottles into a skip! The breakfast was good, lots of choice on the menu, service was excellent at breakfast on both mornings - staff helpful and polite. The room was a little expensive for what it was even in view of the fact that Bath is expensive anyway. The location was excellent. The reception desk was deserted when we arrived and we had to summon a member of the bar staff to go and locate the errant receptionist, But in general good experience.

The staff at this hotel could not do enough for us, so friendly and welcoming. The room was lovely, if a little draughty in the extreme weather conditions we were undergoing. There was an excellent choice of dishes for breakfast, and and an equally good choice for our special deal dinner - all well cooked. The location was excellent with just a five minute walk to all the main attractions and the building work opposite mentioned previously has now been completed! and even being opposite the railway station, we were not disturbed by trains.

Stayed here just after New Year, as a last minute post-Christmas and NY break. Got a ridiculously cheap dinner, bed & breakfast deal from the hotel's own website, so booked a 2 night break on the spur of the moment.

The hotel is in a superb location - literally just over the road from the train station (in fact, the bar appears very popular with people popping in for a drink before boarding a train) and a short walk from the new shopping area in Bath. The staff were superb from the second we arrived - really friendly, and genuinely helpful. The hotel itself is reasonably small (31 bedrooms) and has apparently recently been refurbished. We had a room on the 2nd floor, at the front of the building, and the room was spotlessly clean, if a little dated. We'd asked for a family room, and got a comfy double bed and separate single for our 9 year old daughter. Our room had a shower, not a bath, and the bathroom was a little small, but that's a fairly minor criticism. The biggest problem with the room though was the noise - more of that later.

We went out to the shops (literally a 3 minute walk from the hotel) and got back in time for our 7PM dinner reservation. The meal was great - really well cooked steaks, and the staff bent over backwards to make sure our daughter had something she enjoyed, too (sausage and chips to the rescue!).

We turned in fairly early, which is when we noticed the noise from outside our room. Being in such a central location, and having a front facing room, we were kept awake until 2 or 3 AM by passers by, traffic etc. The room was also very warm, but due to the outside noise, we couldn't open the window too much. All of this wasn't helped by the people in the room directly above ours seemingly practising ballroom dancing until the small hours - unfortunately the creaky floorboards made a racket, too! I'd strongly recommend requesting a 3rd floor room, facing the rear of the hotel. That way, there would be no-one above you, and you wouldn't be disturbed by the outside noise.

Breakfast was great - big choice, too. Really good eggs benedict, and a proper Full English (made with good quality ingredients) set us up for the day.

Bar was very welcoming and seemed very popular. Decent selection of beers and wines, and quite a nice buzz on Saturday night. Nothing more uninviting than being the only customers in an empty dead hotel bar!

So, positives: -

Great location
Genuinely pleasant & helpful staff
Great food & bar

Negatives: -

Only thing would be the outside noise (which is hardly the fault of the hotel)

We'd definitely consider going back, but would make sure we booked a quieter room.

The hotel has been refurbished and is extremely cosy and welcoming. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Our room (requested at the back of the hotel because reviews said the front can be noisey) was at the rear and really a home from home, nice big bathroom, very clean, a soft bed (not to my husband's taste) and very nicely decorated. We ate in the hotel on the 3 nights we stayed there, food and service were equally excellent, good wine list. Excellent location, just 3 mins walk to the centre of bath. Superb city to explore on foot, visited the house on the Crescent, took a boat trip to Hamptom Mills, toured the Roman Baths (excellent) and ate extremely well at lunchtime in the local establishments. A shoppers paradise, lots of independent shops with attentive sales staff. Great hotel in a great city.

We arrived a little stressed from a long drive (parking off road available), we were early they could not give access to our room but carried out the formalities. They greeted us well explained about Bath sights and attractions, how to use the Spa, we had a package which included an evening meal, where just about everything on the menu was available inc Steaks. The service was always excellent and they knew what they were doing, and talking about, unusually the Hotel had Real Ale and Leaved Tea which we specifically enjoyed.
