“Marvelous Marlborough House”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

We checked in to the Marlborough Guest House on October 20th for a four night stay. We arrived later than expected and the proprietor greeted us with cheery accommodation. Once we checked in we were given a brief orientation to Bath and restaurant recommendations which were better than any tour guide or book.

The house is a beautiful Georgian house that is very eloquently furnished and imbecilely kept. The all organic two-course breakfast was at leisurely pace and more than ample to start a day of sight seeing.

From check in to check out I must say the staff made us feel like familiar guests in their home.

Two opposable thumbs and a prehensile tail up!

I booked through late rooms for a birthday surprise for my husband .
I was a bit concerned when I got an email ( very politely ) asking what time check in I would make , I am used to big brand hotels with 24 hr desks . The reason for this became apparent though when Peter sat us down with a drink at check in and gave us a map an several hints and tips on Bath , these were proved very helpful , and saved us time and money .
The whole place is spotlessly clean , well above big brand standards .
Breakfast was my next surprise , as it is vegetarian , I like a full English when someone else is cooking it ! However the quality of the food , and omelettes cooked to perfection soon made up for the shock .
Peter , Lily and Sarah are genuine people who care about the service they provide , and should be hugely proud of the levels they achieve .

Warm, welcoming, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, convenient location, quiet and many lovely extras like the fresh fruit for breakfast and organic bathroom products. Our ground floor room would be good for anyone who found stairs a problem. The breakfast omelet was the best breakfast we have had in UK.

You wouldn't want to stay anywhere else once you have stepped through the door of Marlborough House. The warm welcome from Peter, the fantastic breakfast Sarah and Lilly serve makes it an ideal weekend break. Forget about the faceless big hotels you can stay at don't look any further you will not be disappointed by staying at Marlborough House.

We stayed with our dog and all three of us couldn't have been happier. The house was lovely and well located with a view of Victoria park and all the sights within a pleasant walk. Breakfast was terrific, the room was well outfitted, spacious and comfortable. But far and away the best feature was the staff, who without exception were helpful, charming and went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Georgian room, but a peak in a couple of the others showed all rooms to be great.

The only bad thing we can say about Marlborough House is that after staying there we were spoiled and expected too much of the other B&B's during the rest of our trip. Peter, Sarah and Lilly welcomed us and seemed genuinely happy to have us there. The rooms (we stayed in two different rooms during our stay) were lovely, well-lit, spotless and well-appointed. Great linens, comfortable beds, stocked bathrooms. The breakfast room was sunny, and the food was good (great fruit assortment, too).

From Peter Moore's friendly welcome to our reluctant check out three days later, my husband and I loved every aspect of this charming guest house. Pete began with excellent travel tips via email before we even left home, and his welcoming orientation to Bath was extremely helpful. His restaurant and tour recommendations were extremely helpful. His delightful assistants, Sara and Lilly, were cheerful as they provided an excellent breakfast each morning. With their organic foods, they had no problem serving a gluten-free breakfast. Our room and private bath were spacious and immaculately clean, and the king-sized mattress was comfortable. We liked having a minifridge with complimentary bottled water, sodas, tea, coffee, biscuits and sherry in the room. The Marlborough House location is great because it is a short distance away from the noisy, touristy center of the town. Despite all of these superlatives, the real pearl is Pete's caring attitude. He gave us his cell phone number and urged us to call anytime if we had a problem, and he asked for feedback on our experience. He was genuinely concerned that we would have a good visit to Bath -- you don't get that at a big hotel. We were so happy here that we rearranged our plans and spent an extra night! We look forward to visiting again soon and recommend Pete and his staff to all of our friends.

Room Tip: Bamboo Room was great.
