“Pure English Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2012

Pros
1. Exceptional service from the staff. Very attentive to our needs - making retaurant reservations, locating a laundry for us, providing directions by phone to the hotel, recommending a visit to Labrook, the list goes on...
2. Great breakfasts! Traditional English + specials for the day
3. Very cozy well appointed rooms with traditional furnishing and decorations + a lovely garden
4. Parking was available in front

Cons
1. The walk into the heart of downtown is pretty but takes about 30 min
2. Ironically for a B&B in Bath our shower did not drain well

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Our family room downstairs with a door to the garden was lovely and quiet

This truly is the most wonderful place to stay in Bath, the staff are really helpful and the rooms are lovely. I have stayed here several times and it never disappoints.

I stayed here a year ago and I'm still singing its praises. The service was wonderful and the rooms were lovely. We stayed in one of the rooms downstairs with direct access to the courtyard. It was a beautiful room with a lot of character. While its not the most ideal location I would definitely recommend The Apsley House to anyone traveling to Bath

Stayed here for three nights for our anniversary.

The owners and staff at this hotel are truely passionate about their hotel business and this shows in the way they treat their guests. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to make your stay special. The hotel is beautiful and really well kept. We stayed in the Beau room which has an antique roll top bath and four poster bed (note: no seperate shower). This was ideal for a romantic anniversary wknd. Breakfast was very nice and they have daily specials.

The hotel is situated a pleasant 25 minute walk away from the city centre and about £7 taxi ride.

We ate at Zen Sushi which was excellent if you like sushi. It is a similar concept to Yo Sushi only fresher, better value and independently run. We also ate at Sotto Sotto one evening which was excellent for a romantic meal. Food was good and service second to none.

We also did a tour of Stone Henge, Avebury, Lacock and castle coombe via Mad Max tours which was really good. The tour guide was very knowledgable and it was an good way of seeing and getting to know the history of the surrounding areas.

We went to the Thermae Spa. Best to go first thing as quieter and on a weekday. Weekends the ques are just to long and I would imagine the spa would not be so relaxing with so many people. We went on monday just before we left bath. 2 hours is enough unless you want treatments. Instead of getting treatments in the thermae spa we found an independent massage therapist based at the treatments rooms in the city centre (next to Lush cosmetics). This was slightly cheaper but the massage was not rushed and our therapist was really good.

We went to the roman baths - again best to go later in day or early to avoid rush.

Bath is a beautiful city with rich architecture and history. It is very busy with tourists however, therefore it is worth planning your trip to see the major attractions by visiting out of peak times to get the most out of them.

Room Tip: Beau room - has antique roll top bath with four poster bed - very romantic. It does not however, ha...

The staff is so welcoming and the breakfast was very good! I didn't mind the walk into town (20-30 min). The only issue I had was with the room. I stayed in the Copenhagen room during my stay and there were so many spiders. It only bothered me because they were up in the headboard and close to the bed so it really creeped me out! Other than that, it was a cozy stay!

This hotel is wonderful and fully deserves the position of first place on trip advisor. We found all features of the hotel good and did not mind the 25 minute walk to the city centre. Excellent hotel at reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Beautiful hotel, small and quaint with the personal touch! Perfect setting for a stay in Bath! Very romantic - huge four poster bed and sunken bath... Breakfast was to die for...stayed here in November 2010 (not 2011 as stated in this review) and it's still stands out! Only downside is that it is about a 20 minute trek from the town centre - that said, we managed it in the snow so it is definitely do-able! Don't let that put you off... We can highly recommend and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else in Bath!
