“Fabulous value for money!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2008

Apsley House Hotel is a wonderful find in Bath! From the start there is a car park space per room - highly needed as car parking is VERY expensive in Bath. The 20-30 minute walk into Bath is lovely, and a map is provided of Bath as soon as you arrive.
The staff are friendly and professional. We stayed in the Wellington room - slightly more expensive but well worth it for the views overlooking Bath and the hotel's small secluded garden. The room was clean, and well decorated. The super-king sized bed was great, and the Molten Brown tolietries in the bathroom were a nice touch. There were bottles of water on our bedside tables for when we arrived, a trouser press in the room, a good selection of magazines and tea & coffee choices. The large, flat screen TV in the room (with freeview) was excellent also!
Breakfast was amazing - fresh fruit platter, cereals, and a large choice of cooked food. The breakfast service was also very good.
Although there is no resturant in the hotel for evening meals as such, they were more than happy to recommend good restruants in the area, or let you bring back a take-away and then provide you with plates and cutlery so that you could eat in your room!
Overall Apsley House Hotel is very good value for money, and both my husband and I came back from our couple of days in Bath fully relaxed - and only a hotel with high standards and who thinks of all the litle things can ever truely do that in 2 days!

  • Liked — The professionalism of the staff.
  • Disliked — Nothing - it was all good!

Apsley House is set in its own grounds with parking available which is a bonus in Bath. The House is a credit to the owners and they have done a good job of providing the genuine old England feel, particularly appealing to overseas visitors. Set on a main road but in a more residential area and slightly further out of town than we would normally select, a walk of 25/30 minutes gets you into the town centre. The trade off is no real noise at night though. The walk is downhill and can take you adjacent to or through a very nice park or by the River Avon. The hotel's manager's will guide you. We found it best to walk into town and take a taxi back, average cost £6.30 approx from the rank by the Abbey. We stayed in a garden room and were lucky to have a sunny few days so could take advantage of opening the doors to the garden and sitting outside overlooking the garden and views... very pleasant. Nice breakfast, friendly staff, very nice overall. We enjoyed a small discount for a 3 night stay but the hotel is a little expensive but for the money far more personal than some of the chains that provide similarly priced guest rooms. An honesty bar is provided for guests providing a limited range of drinks, but the room is locked around 10pm, presumably ensure guests don't stay in and become too noisy?

Great hotel and friendly staff. It is a bit out of Bath city centre, but worth the drive. Breakfast was amazing with a great view. Good parking on site. Rooms are personal and cozy. Would highly recommend!

Stayed on Saturday 20th September for one night, but we are wishing we could have stayed longer!! It was such a lovely hotel, with superb rooms and excellent staff.

We were celebrating our anniversary and when we arrived we were told that we had been upgraded to the Romantic Room!! It was a superb room which had a four poster bed and lovely views. The room, in fact the whole hotel, was spotlessly clean and the ambience was just lovely.

I think it is a credit to Duncan and Anel who run the hotel and who couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable - nothing was too much trouble!!

Would we stay again? - never had an easier question to answer! - without doubt yes!!!

Thank you for making our special day extra special !!!

My wife and I spent 2 nights in this lovely house. We made a roundtrip through South-England with 7 stops and this was the best. Very nice drawing-room and breakfast-room. We had a bedroom with door to the garden, very quiet, lovely furnished. The walk to Bath town centre is appr. 20 minutes downhill, but you can make sidesteps to Victoria Park, Royal Crescent and Circus. Good ale and good food in the nearby pub The Weston.

We spent two night here in January with two other friends so we had three rooms. Every one of them was lovely. The basement room with the exit the garden was fantastic.

We had a room on the second floor and it was a much less expensive room but it was gorgeous.

Everyone was so friendly, when I was too tired to walk out for dinner on a Sunday night they helped me order from a local Indian resaturant and then provided us with plates and napkins and silverware.
Breakfast was excellent as well.

The walk into bath is a bit long but do-able and if you get tired a cab is always an option.

We loved everything about Apsley and would stay here again with out hesitation. Everything was first class. and the owners and managers were all very friendly and helpful.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. The B&B was beautiful, well cared for, clean with friendly hosts and a delicious breakfast. We stayed for 2 nights in a Superior room on the third floor. The location is just beautiful. We walked to Bath most of the time and came back by taxi. I would highly recommend the Apsley House.

  • Liked — relaxing, clean and beautiful
  • Disliked — It's not right in Bath. We enjoy walking though.
