We had 2 double rooms in this beautifully appointed B&B (including the one in the basement with the old-fashioned clawfoot tub - my sister absolutely loved it). It was by far the nicest place we stayed during our UK trip, with service to match. Beautiful garden in back for relaxing, lovely lounge with drinks and snacks you can help yourself too - all reasonably priced and on the honor system, you just jot down what you had. For breakfast you can help yourself to fresh fruit and juices to start, then follow with cooked-to-order eggs with salmon, full English breakfast - or ask for the Chef's special of the day, which may be pancakes or eggs Benedict. The staff was very helpful giving us information about how to get around - and made many calls to arrange our excursions. When we found that Mad Max tours were full up, they suggested we hire a private chauffeur, which proved to be a terrific idea. Instead of a cramped bus with lots of other people, we were driven around the Cotswolds in a spacious Mercedes by Jo Clifford (Star chauffeurs). Cost is 20 pounds/hour for driving, 10 pounds/hour waiting time. You can plan your own trip, stay as long as you want, and enjoy the delightful company of Jo, who will tell you a bit about the places you're visiting. We liked her so much we invited her along for lunch. HIghly recommended - and not all that expensive if you compare what four people would pay on a commercial tour. As for location - true, it's not close enough for easy walking (we were told at the train station that it was a half hour walk so we lugged our suitcases along and attempted it - that I do NOT recommend!), but cabs are easily available for about 6 pounds to the center of town. Bottom line: delightful place I would definitely go back to.

We came to Apsley house 2 weeks in to our month long trip. Staying in the carriage house was a welcome respite for me and my 3 children. We had enough space for everyone to take their own space, cook some of our own meals and do some laundry. We had our own private patio too. The only short comings are that it is not particularly centrally located but there is bus service across the street. (it's cheaper to take a taxi for a family of 4) There is street noise in the front bedroom but my sons didn't mind at all. A very nice accommodation with friendly staff and 2 bathrooms!

The place is relaxing, well maintained and the attention to detail is remarkable. The hosts are very friendly and most important, very helpful. They provided directions, recommendations, even lent us their road atlas as we went on a trek around the area for a day. We inquired about crepes at breakfast, not on the menu, and voila, the following morning they were on the menu and in our plate. Deliscious!
They even lent us a laptop to e-mail our family. Anything we asked for was taken care of better than we could have expected...
The only drawback is that it was a little further outside of town that we expected, but at that price, its worth the walk: we spent the previous nights at another place in a similarly remote area for the same price and Apsley House was head and shoulders above.
Thanks for a great stay!

We travelled to Bath with my partner for a Valentines weekend last year. We booked what was called a "Romantic Room" and were really pleased with our stay. The staff were so helpful with everything, it was our first time in Bath and they provided us with maps, information on places to visit, restaurants info + numbers to make reservations...
The rooms we perfect, stylish and clean. The prices aren't lowest, but hey, it's worth it.

I absolutely cannot recommend this place enough. We booked late through a website and got a good deal on the price and were very glad we did.

The service was excellent, we were greeted by name as we arrived, shown to our room and given lots of helpful information. Without exception the staff ere pleasant and very helpful.

Our room was an absolute delight. The en suite had a claw foot bath and superb shower, the facilities were spotless and very tastefully decorated. We only wished we'd had longer to stay there. Breakfast was delicious and served in a wondeful room with a delightful view of the garden. If you go to Bath, stay here.

I stayed for 3 nights in one of the garden rooms. It was so quiet and private, I felt like I had my own little flat in Bath. My first trip to England and what a delight to have an English breakfast cooked to perfection and served on nice china. After spending a busy day in downtown Bath it was nice to be tucked away in my quiet garden room. My friend stayed in a room on the main floor where the dining room and honor bar are and was pleased to report that she didn't even hear noise. I can't say enough good things about this hotel other than to say the number one ranking is richly deserved!

We were visiting friends near Bath for the weekend, and we wanted to stay someplace close to them and to Bath. The Apsley House fit the bill -- and received glowing reviews -- so we booked a Garden Suite, which would accommodate my husband and I and our daughter.

I have to admit I am a bit suspect of places with so many absolutely glowing reviews, but after spending two nights at the Apsley House, we all agree it was absolutely as advertised and reviewed: an utterly charming little hotel with great friendly service, comfortable rooms (with beautiful modern bathrooms and amenities), a beautiful garden, and a delicious full English breakfast.

We would absolutely book a room at Apsley House again.
