“A must see when it Bath”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

This abbey reminds me a lot of St. Georges Chapel at Windsor........BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

Don't miss seeing the inside while you are in Bath. Wonderful stained glass windows and the ceiling is so neat to see. Massive pipe organ and just a wonderful site. Small donation requested at the door but no required. Nice little gift shop on the way out.

Don't miss this when you are in Bath!

“Great, Very succint, underadvertised”
Reviewed 15 October 2007

After visiting the overcrowded neighboring Roman Baths, it would be easy for most to decide to skip the Bath Abbey and the more notable Bath Abbey Vaults.

Bath Abbey is the largest late Gothic church in England. The best part is the early 16th century ceiling over the choir and the museum located in the vaults. The vaults are not well sign posted at all (head toward the altar, the door is on the right wall, go outside then down the stairs) and as consequence you may find yourself the only person there.

The designer of this tiny museum is a master of concision and organization. I didn't think it was possible to sum up 1600 years of history so well. Information ranging from the Abbey's Saxon roots to today is displayed in visual and audio form. They also have a tasteful display of the skeleton of a female found buried with the monks which includes facts regarding the archaeological circumstances of her discovery.

The museum runs on donations alone; it is well worth visiting.
