Owner description: Beckford's Tower is now closed for the winter, reopening on 5 March 2016. The elegant, golden-topped neo-classical tower on Lansdown Hill was built by Henry Goodridge in 1827 as a retreat for the brilliant writer and eccentric William Beckford. Born to great wealth and endowed with precocious talent Beckford created magnificent buildings in which to store his extraordinary art, furniture and book collections. Today the tower houses a museum dedicated to Beckford. The magnificent spiral staircase sweeps up to the Belvedere with its ornately gilded lantern affording breath-taking views over Bath and the surrounding countryside. At the foot of the tower is the Victorian cemetery, once part of Beckford’s pleasure garden, where both he and Goodridge lie buried. “Not worth the 4 pounds”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

After what seemed like forever climbing the stairs to the top, hoping to get some fresh air and amazing views, it was fairly deceiving as it was a small room with no windows that could open and limited views. On the plus side the cemetery trail was interesting.

“A jewel in Bath”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Beckford tower is a jewel on top of Landsdown. Built almost 200 years ago by William Beckford, a rich man who inherited his vast fortune and spent his whole life collecting beautiful things. As he wanted to live within the landscape he had this tower built from where he could drink the beauty of the landscape of Bath and it's surrounding hill. On a clear day you can see as far as the Bristol Channel and the White Horse Of Westbury.

In the tower you can see a collection, furniture and paintings that belonged to William Beckford
The tower is situated close to the cemetery where the rich and famous of Bath had themselves buried. So many statues, so much marble..... In such a small place! This place itself is worth a visit.

We had a picnick on a field just south of the Graveyard, than we had a walk and visited the tower. A wonderful afternoon.

“What a gem”
Reviewed 17 June 2014 via mobile

Only open on Saturdays and Sundays. Beautiful surrondings. A lovely peaceful cemetery with a magnificent view. A hearty walk from Bath city center. After your visit you should stop by the Hare and Hound.

“Great place to Stay”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

We were luck enough to discover there is an apartment adjacent to Beckford's Tower that can be reserved. We spent three nights in an absolutely amazing location. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the beds are comfortable, plenty of space in a large dining/living room, and our own 'private' tower! Cannot recommend more highly!

“If you have a free pass visit otherwise don't”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

There is a nice view and a small collection. There is nothing wrong with what they have, but do not go out of your way for this. It is free for national trust pass holders and there is a little free parking. We went, but stayed less than 25 minutes including climbing the 127 steps if the tower with three children.
