“Absolutely wonderful stay”
Reviewed 16 August 2014 via mobile

I stayed here for a birthday treat and it exceeded all my expectations. I'd eaten here before and loved the food and service, but staying over was a whole new experience. The balconys with river side views are an absolute must. You get the sun all day long, we just sat outside with a bottle of wine and enjoyed watching the boats and rowers go by. It was absolute bliss. The room was beautiful, modern and clean, and there was a big glass of chocolate eclairs too! I can't wait to go back!

Went for dinner & was very disappointed. The food was ok but service very poor, all young staff, who would stand around the bar chatting with no real interest in diners. Which you can understand as they seem to have no one in charge. We had starters then waited very long time for a sharing board of cheese & meat. We asked one of the waiters who never came back to us. Five minutes later our platter arrived approached later by (I assume the manager as he was wearing a bunch of keys!) he informed us we'd asked for the platter after our starters which was correct however we did not expect to wait 40 minutes, his response I'll go & check with the kitchen!? Working in hospitality is tough we both know as it's what we do but a competent level of service should be found in somewhere with such a great location & potential

We were really looking forward to this hotel and found the room to be really modern and very well equipped, with a fabulous bathroom, massive comfortable bed and a great view of the bins.It was a little confusing when checking in as there was only a tiny desk at the end of the bar, although the manager was friendly and quite helpful. Room 8 was the furthest room possible. We booked a table for dinner six hours in advance. At dinner, although limited choice of dishes on the menu when sitting down to order we found that half of the limited menu was not available and had sold out of roast beef dinners, steaks or beefburgers therefor leaving very little choice and no alternatives. We ordered and had to wait twenty minutes for our order. The potted pork starter was dry and mostly bread and the tomato soup was cold, when ask to reheat the soup, it still came back tepid. The mains, although not having anything we would normally order, after a wait of 35 mins the chicken breast in a bun and spicy bean burger arrived. The bean burger was mushy and frozen in the centre and the chicken breast was cold, The chips that accompanied the meal seemed to have been refried countless times and were also cold, sharp and brittle. The waitress was very pleasant and tried her best to be helpful. If dinner was a nightmare, breakfast was just as bad - half an hour wait for cold cooked breakfast, no fresh fruit and slow service. This really spoiled our stay and would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not choose room number 8 as has a view of the staff entrance and bins.

Lovely building and grounds next to the river, unfortunately a bad meal. Poor fish and chips. Heavily battered fish, very overdone chips dark in colour and not very appetising, sent it back and the waitress brought out a slightly improved meal. Very disappointing. My partners opinion on the food was that it was just average. He had the lamb. So not impressed to be fair.the waitress was very apologetic.

The location was scenic, peaceful and tranquil. The hotel was exactly what it looks like in the pictures. It is about 4 miles from Bath, but it has a park and ride on its doorstep, it costs £2.50 return at weekends and its every 15 mins, the downside is it finishes at 8.00 at the weekend but a taxi costs about £10. Our room no.4 was lovely, it was a really good size and it has a very big balcony which was lovely to watch the world go by. The bar and restaurant was very nice and lovely friendly staff with good prices. The breakfast was very tasty. The only downside is the carpets could do with cleaning or replacing, I wouldn't recommend biege carpets in a hotel.

Room Tip: Room no.4 very large balcony with stunning views of the river.

Amazing little hidden treasure, found by accident but wow...

Staff very friendly and nothing too much of a problem, lovely spacious room, beautiful secluded balcony, breakfast freshly cooked and not for the feint hearted!

Access to Bath brilliant with the park and rude situated next door, £3.40 return!

Our room was lovely, maybe a new lick of paint would be good, but perfectly good, our balcony was amazing, secluded and quiet.

We chose this hotel as it was so convenient to get into central bath, we spent the day at the thermae spa. We caught last bus home and spent the evening watching narrow boats floating along the river and the farmer across the river combining like mad!

Perfectly wonderful place to stay and can't wait to go back.

Booked for this stay some time ago and looked forward to it since booking. Overall we found it disappointing. Mainly little things, but most significant was the musty smelling bathroom which overpowered the whole room. Shower failed to work the first morning despite attempts by hotel staff to correct, and it turned out that the tap was so stiff only brute force fixed it. Breakfast very disappointing. Great if you like fry ups, but no continental alternatives available. Overall we felt that a 3 star rating was appropriate but at 4 star cost.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river. But piped music starts at 07.30 and the speakers are located just below...
