I don't tend to drink coffee in the UK much because I find it far too bitter and unpleasant but after not much sleep decided for the caffeine hit and got 2 flat whites for myself and my friend. Fantastic idea. The barista not only knew how to brew an espresso with a proper crema but also knew how to pour the milk without ruining it and created a pleasing rosetta on top. Not only that but the coffee didn't have any of the usual bittersweet taste of coffee in the uk, instead tasting vaguely of marzipan and fruitcake. Definitely an improvement.
For brunch we got "The Boss" and Eggs Benedict. The Boss is basically a traditional fry up with a haircut, shave, and wearing a nice suit. Really, really nice and definitely filling. The potatoes and sausage were especially excellent, and the staff allowed my friend to swap his white pudding for an extra sausage at the point of order.
The eggs benedict were perfect. Poached eggs with the whites thoroughly cooked but the yolks still runny. Made with really nice eggs too, with a lovely dark-orange yolk. Excellent hollandaise sauce, rich and buttery.
The location in the square is a fantastic place to sit and people watch as well. My friend and I sat there for 2 hours after we were finished and watched the world go by just idly chatting.
Definitely one of my favourite brunches of all time.
