My mother and I took a Mad Max tour on November 16, 2006. We took the all-day excursion to see Castle Combe, Avebury, Lacock, and Stonehenge. Overall, it was a great trip though we did have a couple of passengers that were always 10 to 20 minutes late at each sight when it was time to move on. Because of this I estimate we had about 20 minutes less at Stonehenge at the end of the day than we should have.
The tours are small and are led by one guide who drives a small van/bus. Our guide Charles was wonderful and extremely patient with his passengers.
However, I would warn anyone who takes this tour - at least in the month of November - that you need more than "sensible shoes" that the Mad Max guides recommend. What they didn't tell us was that at Avebury your every step (and I do NOT exaggerate) will be in sheep droppings. You also need to be careful not to slip and fall (one of the girls on our trip did slip onto her back while walking at Avebury). Most probably, you will be the only tourists there at Avebury- it is a beautiful spot - but you want to be forewarned to wear shoes or hiking boots that you don't mind being covered completely in you know what.
We had one of best meals of our entire 2 week trip in South East England at the George Inn while in Lacock Village. Charles told us this pub was usually much busier and that we were lucky to get seated so quickly, but if you can fit it in, I encourage you to have your lunch here.
In all, the Mad Max tour was a nice laid-back excursion which covered some wonderful sights and we were given personalized and interesting commentary from our guide. If you have a day to spare while around the Bath area, I highly recommend taking this tour.

We can't say enough about the Mad Max Tour of Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock and Castle Combe. Our guide, Charles, was interesting and informative. Plenty of time allowed at each stop and we even had an opportunity to try out dowsing rods at Avebury! Mad Max was very accomodating about arranging for one member of our party to leave the tour early and catch a flight. It all went without a hitch and made it possible for us to spend most of a day together. The highlight of our trip.

We loved our tour with Mad Max. Charles, our tour guide, was not only charming but intelligent, efficient, and just plain fun! This day was the highlight of our England trip. We had made reservations from the US, and we fell into bad luck with our B and B being closed, our trip dates changes, and Mad Max handled it all with aplomb. Thanks again for the fantastic tour, I just wish that we had had longer and could have taken the Cotswald's tour. The Wilson's, Fleetwood, PA

We wanted to see as much as possible during our 4 day stay in Bath.
Mad Max Tours was the perfect solution of touring, great information,
congenial fellow travelers, and just plain fun! Charles was our guide for each of our two tours. He was not only a great driver ( those roads would have been a nightmare for us), but cheerful, articulate, and accommodating. He knows his stuff! Kudos for your service, affordability,
and comfort. The Polsons Tucson, AZ USA

Three cheers for Paul and Mad Max tours! We traveled with 8 teen-age Girl Scouts through England, France, and Switzerland and our Mad Max tour from Bath to Salisbury was the highlight of the trip. The girls loved it and the adult leaders were thrilled!

Affordable, courteous, knowledgeable, small group service that showed a true love of the country. This is no 'sit on the bus and drive through' tour but a get up walk around and experience trip. It was like being with family.

Just do it...you won't be sorry.
