I stayed three nights at Hill House recently and all the good things previous guests have said are all true it's fabulous and I could not have asked for a better place. My room was up top, great view, lovely big bathroom and comfortable bed, enjoyed the complimentary biscuits with the tea and coffee making facilities in my room, also not a flounce or frill anyway, thank heaven! Breakfasts were wonderful and the company of the other guests around the big table was fantastic, so many interesting friendly people from all parts of the world, it started the day off well before exploring. Douglas, Harry and Alan are all charming and do a great job, congratulations to you all for getting it all right.

We recently spent two nights at Hill House, and could not have been more pleased. Our room was extremely comfortable and our hosts could not do enough for us. Outstanding breakfasts (and even a lesson on making fool proof poached eggs) and superb advice on local sites and restaurants. A slight drawback was that our lovely room was on the main road, so it was a bit noisy. But the tasteful decor and comfort more than compensated. We arrived by train, and although not in the middle of town, it was extremely easy to get to Hill House on foot, by local bus or by taxi. We shall certainly be returning.

We loved our stay at Hill House in Bath! From the first moment when Douglas greeted us by name and personally parked our car, to the last morning when Harry sent us along with fantastic suggestions for the next leg of our journey, the hosts of Hill House could not have been more generous with their time and expertise! Hill House has a relaxed and eclectic elegance, with delightful surprises on surfaces and in corners everywhere you turn. Our room (#7) had a lovey view of the adjoining hills as well as a pretty little garden below, and was spotless, designed beautifully, was well-appointed and brand-new! The bed was comfy with lovely white linens; the bathroom, like everything else, was newly-renovated and in perfect condition, had unfailing hot water and good shower pressure, and there were tea and coffee, madeleines and even thermoses of fresh milk and water outside our door each morning. Breakfasts were dreams-come-true! Sun poured in and washed the big wooden tables laden with yummies. Hot freshly made-to-order gourmet breakfasts started our days off in healthy warmth, and included friendly conviviality with the other delightful guests and with our hosts. The suggestions for activities and restaurants in Bath were spot-on and made us feel like we were locals. Even walking up the hill to our Hill House "home" each evening had a great benefit - working off some of the extra vacation calories! We would highly recommend Hill House and would love to see it achieve #1 Bed and Breakfast in Bath on Trip Advisor!

Room Tip: Not sure what the other rooms were like (we're sure they were great, too), but we were very comf...

Stayed over the May bank holiday weekend. We arrived just after midday by train and were lucky enough to check straight in. We were in room 4 which was huge, beautifully decorated and very nicely furnished. The owners are very friendly and are very knowledgeable about all the best places to visit during your stay. Nice little touches everywhere from the White Company toiletries to the little flask of fresh milk and water to the room each afternoon to the gorgeous ornaments and pictures dotted around everywhere. Breakfast was excellent, and so sociable, around a huge table. We loved Bath before this visit but will be making it regular haunt after this stay. Well done guys, this one of the best places we ever had the pleasure to stay at.

My wife and I had a mid-week stay here, our first visit together as she had never been to Bath. The minute we arrived we were made most welcome by Douglas and although very early, (to drop off our luggage and park up the car), we were sat down, had tea, biscuits and a long chat where he explained the lay of the land and the local attractions. He recommended several nearby restaurants that we tried and found to be superb. Our room was excellent, as were the breakfasts. For those with cars, parking is via a permit, and not necessarily close by, but if you arrive early before the locals arrive home, is not a problem. The area is very hilly but several buses pass Hill House if you find it a strain returning from the centre of the city, which is about ten minutes downhill walk away. I cannot praise Hill House and Mien Hosts enough, it has all been said before and is all true.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to our home! Hill House was built in 1765 at the end of a Georgian terrace behind the Assembly rooms in Central Bath. Built originally as a hotel it later became a wine merchants and then a pub. The current owners purchased the property in 2011 and have updated the property throughout. The modernisation has been sympathetically undertaken to retain as much of the period of charm of the property as possible. The property now has six en suite letting rooms located one at the front and one at the back on each of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the property. All bedrooms are equipped with newly appointed shower rooms, 32” digital Televisions, hairdryers and free wifi. The more the stairs the better the views from the rooms across Bath to the countryside beyond!Breakfast is served in our dining room on one large table, where reccomendations of what to see and where to eat are shared. Besides a choice of cereals etc we also offer a choice of two cooked breakfasts per day which vary throughout the week. We are able to cater for most dietary requirements but ask for as much notice as possible as we do not carry some items as stock as we are only a small establishment. This is our home and we want you to be able to relax in it. We have ironing facilities and a house sewing kit to hand. If you need anything else please ask and we will see what we can do.Hill House is a 2 minute walk from the Assembly Rooms and five minutes from the main shopping centre and Royal Crescent. There are plenty of local places to eat and drink close by and we would be happy to give recommendations upon request. On street Parking permits are available but will need to be reserved. ... more   less
