“What a disappointed”

We found this hotel online and one of the reasons we booked it was because it said it had "parking". Not so unfortunately, we had to park in a short term car park to actually find the hotel and on checking in we were told that we had to park in a long term car park some 10 minutes walk away. Not only did we have to pay for the short term car park (approx £4 min charge), we then had to pay £17 in the long term so that we could stay overnight until check out the following morning. Not only that, the hotel was incredibly scruffy, paintwork old and chipped, carpets threadbare. Finally and worst of all, the pipes in the bathroom banged and groaned all night, keeping us awake. Breakfast was great as it was in the Loch Fyne restaurant under the hotel.

Room Tip: Not room 9 on the 3rd floor, no lift and very steep stairs

From reading the reviews we knew that the Milsoms Hotel was above a fish restaurant so that wasn't a surprise to us.
When we arrived it took a while to be seen to because the restaurant was busy and there is no separate check in area for hotel guests. Once a staff member was free they were polite and friendly. We'd arrived a bit before check in but we were able to leave our cases whilst we went and got some food.
When we returned to the hotel we were taken through the passage way to the hotel.
There is a lot of stairs so it isn't suitable for anyone who can't manage stairs. The lady got our cases and did ask if we'd be ok with them, to which we said yes. We were on the 3rd floor which involves a lot of stairs.
The room was ok, clean but quite outdated. The mattress on the bed wasn't very thick so that when you sat on it you could feel the bed base. It was nice having bottled water in the room as well as tea and coffee making facilities.
We were out for the evening and returned late so can't really comment on noise. But it was nice having a key to a separate entrance so you didn't need to keep coming in through the restaurant.
Breakfast in the morning was lovely, a nice choice and freshly cooked.
Overall the hotel was ok, good location being in the centre of bath, friendly staff, good breakfasts but could do with being updated and does contain a lot of stairs.

The hotel is more of a restaurant with rooms, with the reception being at the restaurant bar. Not ideal but we chose the hotel for the position as we were attending a friends wedding reception only a few minutes walk away.
The room was on the top floor and it was clean and well prepared. The bathroom was very clean but is due a refurbishment. Nothing wrong with the room or bathroom but they were due a lick of paint. There is no staff on duty late in the evening or overnight which could raise issues but was no problem for us.
The breakfast was superb and the service in the restaurant excellent.
Value for money was good and if I wanted a town centre place to just rest my head I would use this hotel again.
No sign of the bad fish smells people on here have mentioned and we were in the hottest few days of the year.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are compact but not overly small and good value. Higher floors help with any noi...

On arrival at this hotel we were shown through the restaurant through the toilet door to the stairs of the hotel (I knew there were no lifts before coming but was not quite prepared for these) we had a room on the top floor that was up 74 very steep winding staircase - my asthma did not like it much! Our room was clean but basic - the carpet was strange it was like walking on ice as you slipped on it and if not careful ended up doing the splits - obviously worn and needs replacing. The sash windows only opened partially at the bottom, not to much of an issue as was not blazing hot and there was a desk fan provided :) However come the evening when you went back to the room the noise from the extractor fans from the restaurant was rather annoying so went to close the window only to find it would not stay shut! The obligatory bible and a wooden notice stand had to be used to wedge it shut! The bathroom was spacious but no bath? only a shower which was a shame in such a large bathroom reasonable quality shower gel, shampoo and soaps provided couldn't say the same about the toilet tissue though.
The cleaners came daily however I noticed that the glasses we had were neither washed or changed for the whole of our stay the complimentary tea and biscuits was not replenished either.
The double bed had no legs so the divan base was directly on the floor making the bed very low - the write up boasts flat screen TV - yes it has one a 15inch one with a remote that obviously needs new batteries and very limited channels.
Staff were pleasant, the restaurant where we had breakfast was pleasant and the food was nice and cooked to order with continental style buffet available as well.
We had keys to get straight into hotel from street door rather than going through the restaurant however this was a struggle on its own - the large internal door opened on to the external door which was very narrow and you had to manoeuvre the doors just right in order to pass through.
I would not go back to this hotel - Travelodge is better than this!! would not recommend this to any one.

Room Tip: Don't bother go elsewhere

The service left a lot to be desired, no help with cases although the staff were all having a good chat at the bar.The room was tired and in need of re plastering as large open cracks on the ceiling. The curtain had come off the rail so the curtains could not be drawn properly, the shower tray was blocked and in need of a good clean as was the tiles. The step up to the shower room was not marked and I nearly tripped up and hit my head on the wall. All this was reported to the receptionist and she was going to inform the manager, but clearly this didnt happen or he couldnt care less, which I feel is more the case.
On the positive side the location was very good.

Room Tip: Dont stay there, there must be better hotels in the area.

Anyone familiar with locations such as York or Oxford will no doubt have at least heard of Bath. Historically one of the most interesting cities that still remains relatively unspoilt. That noted, the fact that you are reading this review means you are already aware of some its charms and you’re looking for a base from which to explore them and more.

Bath on the whole is split between some quite expensive (for what is offered) hotels and a variety of high to mid end priced venues some calling themselves hotels but many having too few rooms to really warrant the title.

That quibble aside, The Milsoms hotel is a small but well position venue. Ideally located for parking and quick and ready access to shopping and dining. Retaining much of what appears to be original features the exterior is typical of Bath predominantly Georgian with only hints of later period changes. Internally the ground floor is taken up by the excellent Loch Fyne restaurant which most guest will be using for breakfast but can also be used for lunches and dinners if you so wish. Having pre-arranged our dining out on this visit I can only speak
for the breakfast which both my wife and myself thoroughly enjoyed. The quality was as good as any of the hotels we've visited in the UK.

The upper floors of the building represent the hotel proper. Again like the exterior, appearing to retain many original features, the public area is worn as noted in many other reviews and gives a lived in feel which is in contrast to the rooms themselves (we were able to see 3 of the stated 9). All appeared to be well maintained and appropriately furnished and of a good standard. Housekeeping was also of a good quality with queries resolved promptly and with no issue.

Having stayed at a few venues in Bath over the years this has to be amongst those worthy of being recommended. Great food, good service and a warm welcome. At it's price point an easy selection.

Spent one night at. MILSOMS never again arrived before check in time so left luggage behind bar, returned back around 6ish checked in given keys taken through a door that lead to toilets and stairs which leads to rooms one room on 1st floor other on 3rd floor asked if there was a lift (no such luck) then asked if ther was any help to carry bags up to rooms (no offer forthcoming) so struggled up stairs, not a good start room one 1st floor large, have never slipped on carpet but did here, room could have been better equipped, water marks on ceiling, windows needed a good clean, very noisy opposit a night club. Room 8 3rd floor no bath shower tray blocked water did not drain propley ring around shower tray not the cleanest of rooms, step into bathroom dangerous no markings. On checking out spoke to person about our concerns she was asked to pass these onto Manger and would appreciated some response but still waiting 11 days on. Sorry would not recommend this hotel to anyone over priced for standard.....not worthy of 4* rating.

Room Tip: Do not go so no tips
