Owner description: A vintage and curious cocktail bar found in some of Bath's unique vaults; we're in the heart of this World Heritage City. A quirky and delightful secret for the lucky few that venture to find it, Opium is tucked away under the landmark Pulteney Bridge much like the old Laudanum and Opiate dens of the Victorian era. The bar is stocked with a wide range of International beers and spirits and staffed by bartenders who can mix and concoct these ingredients into the most wondrous (and affordable) cocktails you've ever indulged in. It's easy to imagine yourself in the company of Sherlock Holmes, H.G Wells, Janis Joplin or William Burroughs as you sip your perfectly made cocktail. £5 for any cocktail Tues-Thurs , Friday until 8 pm.Check out the secret room for parties. “Best bar staff in Bath”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014

We went here two nights in a row, both times the staff offered to make us customised cocktails. They were really friendly, letting us taste as they went along and offering exceptional service. The decoration is eclectic, with a lot of personality with underground rooms that give a very intimate feeling. Though the cocktails are pricey (£7.50, or £5 before 9pm on weeknights), they were delicious. If it's a special occasion, or a date you want to impress then this is the place to be. Though some of the antique furniture could do with some extra cushions, it all added to the vibe.

Have a look in the drawers of the coffee and side tables - some of them are empty and some of them have little notes of people who have been there before.

“Quirky Cocktail Bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

It is a bit off the beaten track and hard to find, but definitely worth the effort. The rooms are decorated with a very eclectic mixture of furniture and furnishings, for instance, the door handle to the loos was a tap!

Large range of cocktails to choose from and £5 during happy hour - woohoo!!!

Great atmosphere and very friendly staff.

“Great little find, amazing drinks and welcoming staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

I visited the Opium on a weekend to Bath with a few friends. My first drink I didn't know what to have so the barman made me a custom made drink after a few questions of flavours I liked. The decor is really interesting, a feast for the eyes. We went on Friday when the drinks were £5 before 9 so ended up trying most of the menu between all of the group. We were very impressed by the whole experience and ended up visiting the second night too, All in all a nice place to relax, friendly and knowledgeable staff and tasty drinks. Definitely recommend.

“Great bar with fab cocktails and lovely staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

We went here on a Sunday night and it was a delight! The decor is fantastic and each nook and cranny has something interesting to gaze at. There's sofas and chez lounges and bed like things..a rabbit hole of weird and wonderful.
The staff were lovely (had a great bar man originally from London if the owners are reading this) who made really great cocktails. Would definitely recommend. A treat :) xx
