“Great little pub”

Each time we visit Bath we make sure that we take the time to visit this little gem of a pub. The beers are always well kept. Get there early as there aren't that many seats and if the fire is on that is the hottest place to be.

This is a great local pub. It had two guest ales when I visited which were eminently quaffable: a local brew Bellringer (a hoppy brew which I liked a lot) and a Cornish Ale (Trewlawny).

It is notable for two features. It claims that it is Bath's smallest pub and it has an unusual stained-glass frontage. The seats are a mixture of new stools and what appeared to be original benches with high backs. Not particularly comfortable but this isn't a pub to come to and go to sleep.

The reason I like this so much is that in the couple of hours I spent in the bar, there was a lot of talk and a very friendly atmosphere. A mix of locals and visitors (and I make a distinction between visitors and tourists) and because this pub doesn't serve food, it meant that people were here for some banter and the bar staff was 100% engaged with the conversation or serving drinks.

The locals were happy to chat with visitors and vice versa. One of the sorts of pubs that is sadly lacking now in all towns and cities. Give it a try sometime but do expect to be sociable to get the best out of your visit.

This is a small little pub in Bath. The meat pie was delicious, my wife's fish and chips were good too. The beer was not great. Order food and drinks at the bar, don't wait for someone to come to you.

We visited this lovely pub on a visit to Bath last week. I bought two drinks which came to just over seven pounds. I told the barman (Alex I think) to take one for himself and he had the cheek to ask me for another 45p. Where I grew up, taking one for yourself means 20 pence and where I live now, the bar staff take one pound or half a lager. I was appalled that a young barman wouldn't have the common sense to take the change at the very most. The beer was good, but the barman was extremely out of order.
