The tunnels although good for walkers, runners etc, are mainly effective for cyclists. Its quite a long walk through the second tunnel, and you do have to watch out for speeding cyclists coming through - some without lights or reflective clothing.
If you are walking with a family / small children / dogs, I would advise single file at all times and if possible take a torch with you to be extra safe. Its light enough to see where you are going, but just make sure cyclists can see you.
Its a great thing to do on a rainy day, because its all underground, and the temperature is fairly constant too.
