“OK food that was great value”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

I met a friend here as it was a suitable location between the two of us. I had the vegetarian option and she had steak. Her steak was over done but edible and my food fairly bland but filling. The atmosphere in the pub was fine and service cheerful. The meal was incredibly good value and so we would probably eat here, just for the location.

“Ok.”
Reviewed 17 December 2013

How to describe The Sizzler at the Red Lion in Bath.... It was OK.

Actually, it really was.

I went with a large group of friends, and despite calling ahead and the waitress insisting we did not need to book, arrived and the place was full. Nowhere to sit, so we had to wait (ok it was 5 minutes luckily) so that was no issue.

We sat on a dirty table, the items were cleared, but the table not wiped.

Once we had all ordered, the wait wasn't long, but it did arrive in dribs and drabs. My cheese and onion pasty arriving last.

A friend ordered M/R steak.... it arrived VERY overdone, however, the waiter was happy to take it back for another. Once the fresh steak arrived almost blue... he thought better to leave it and just eat it as it was. After all it is only a budget pub, and clearly we shouldn't expect the world.

If i'm honest, the food wasn't brilliant, and it all tasted as if it was heated in the microwave, but we sat for hours chatting and laughing and not once did we feel unwelcome.

The budget food is as it says... budget, but if you're not after the world, and after a nice stodgy meal with a pint of coke with friends, this is better suited.

“It Let Down the Sizzling Pub Chain”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

Having a Sizzling Pub more or less on our doorstep, we anticipated that we would have a good pub grub meal at pub grub prices. We were disappointed in the Red Lion 468 Wellsway Coombe Down Bath. One meal was just about Ok. The other was simple battered fish and chips. However, the fish was as dry as if it had been left on a hotplate for some time. Not cooked to order then, so this pub venue we will avoid in the future.
