“Fab stay”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

My partner and I have just returned from a two night stay at Bailbrook House Hotel and we were extremely impressed with the service and standard of the hotel overall. The bed was amazingly comfy and the hotel itself spotlessly clean and well run. Breakfast was excellent with everything you'd expect from a hotel of this calibre. Although slightly out of the centre, this didn't really affect our enjoyment of the stay. In fact, being surrounded by gardens meant that our room was lovely and quiet and a short taxi could be taken to reach the centre of Bath. We did walk in once, a pleasant walk along the canal. Overall, I would certainly recommend Bailbrook House and plan to return, probably in the summer for another weekend.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this wonderful hotel! We stayed in The William Pitt room in the mansion house. If your break is for a special occasion, I'd recommend you book a room in The Mansion house, as I don't think the rooms in the new building would have The Wow factor! If you book a mansion room, you also get a superb a la carte table service breakfast in Cloisters. I think this is only at weekends, as on day 2 of our stay ( a Monday.), we had to have a buffet breakfast in the new building which wasn't as great. Our room was very spacious, luxuriously decorated and spotlessly clean. It had every amenity you could want from a tv at the end of the bath to a capsule coffee machine. The bed was amazingly comfy, and if I could have fitted it in our car, I would have taken it home! The half bottle of complimentary champagne was greatly appreciated and enjoyed. The customer service at this hotel is probably the best I've had for a long time. Maybe too formal for me at times, but that's just my personal choice. All the staff were so friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located about 3 miles outside of Bath, and getting into the centre is quick and easy. There is a bus stop at the bottom of the hotel road and a taxi is only £7. We throughly enjoyed our stay, and the only niggle I did have is that we had to have the buffet breakfast on day 2. It was ok, but nothing great and certainly not to the standard of the cloisters breakfast. Thank you for a wonderful stay for my 40th birthday!

I stayed at Bailbrook House recently with my partner, we stayed for two nights. We booked a classic room which we found to pleasantly furnished, spotlessly clean, cold, dark, and with a view of a grassy mound and a gravel path. It was impossible to warm the room as the heating was ineffective and difficult to control. As the room was so cold we asked for a heater, but instead we were upgraded to an executive room on the first floor. This room was identical in every way to the classic except that it was decorated with a different colour scheme, and had a coffee machine. The view was very slightly improved as it was on a higher floor, but was certainly not a view of rolling countryside as depicted in the hotel's photos. The room was still cool and dark, but after about an hour my partner was finally able to operate the heating system to heat the room. The bathrooms in both rooms were identical, clean and functional, definitely not luxury.
The breakfast room is located in the new wing, and is somewhat characterless. The breakfast was a very average spread of hot and cold food, the hot food incidentally, was not hot but luke warm. As food ran out it was not refilled. Service was good on day one, average on day two.
The hotel hosts a good many corporate events, including many from the University of Bath. If you are staying whilst on business, the new wing will probably suffice, assuming you don't mind being cold. If you are looking for a special, personal celebration, you may find that the rooms in the old house suit your purpose better. For those staying in the new wing, the hotel is essentially a modern, purpose built block, devoid of the character the hotel markets itself as having. I found that after check in I didn't set foot in the original manor house again. Obviously, if having dinner in the Cloisters Restaurant, guests would walk through the old house.
To conclude, my overall experience was disappointing.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the main house unless you are a corporate visitor.

We have just got back from a weekend here and what can I say except WOW! Everything was fantastic. We stayed in the old part and had the Henry Talbot Room. Not the biggest we've stayed in especially for the price but definitely the best and the most worth it. Three tellys! Roll top bath. Rain shower. Fridge. Choice of coffee's. Food was excellent. Stunningly eye pleasing and better to eat but the best thing about this place is it's Customer Service. I've never received better. We were phoned the day before to check we knew the route and if there was anything we needed arranging prior to our stay. Shown round the hotel on arrival and to our room. We went out the first night and came back to find our bed turned down, curtains drawn and towels changed. Nothing is too much trouble but also not too full on just the right amount of perfect. The staff seem to work all hours and are permanently smiling and friendly. Everything about the place awed me. Thank you to all the staff you work hard but it's appreciated. Oh and for someone who doesn't sleep well the beds and bedding are to die for.

My husband and I stayed in an executive double for one night to celebrate our anniversary. Years ago, the hotel was an air traffic control training centre - my dad trained and worked here, so it was great to see how it has evolved from Bailbrook College to Bailbrook House!

Before our arrival we had emailed the hotel to book dinner in the Cloisters restaurant, and mentioned that it was our anniversary. When we got to our room, there was an anniversary card and a small box of chocolates for us, which we thought was an unexpected and lovely touch. The room was very spacious and beautifully furnished. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable.

Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived at 11am, so we left our luggage and caught the bus from the main road into the centre of Bath and went to the Roman Baths and the Thermae Bath Spa. It cost £5.20 for 2 singles. As it was a bank holiday, the bus timetable back top the hotel wasn't regular so we took a taxi. When we returned, our luggage had been taken to our room for us.

The price of our stay included dinner in the Cloisters restaurant, which was absolutely delicious. Before eating we were invited for drinks and aperitifs in the lounge whilst looking at the menus. The food was delicious and in a fantastic setting.

We had a full English breakfast the following morning, before checking out. I wish we had booked for 2 nights as we had such an enjoyable time! We would definitely return,

Had a couple of days here, have stayed in a few Handpicked Hotels and this was by far the most elegant and well maintained. Staff were lovely, and made such a fuss of our 9 year old. Food excellent. Loved the atmosphere of the Cloisters restaurant. Shame there is no pool.

Room Tip: Would try and stay away from the ground floor, lots of noise from people walking past
