A group of 5 friends booked lunch largely because of the railway heritage of this inn. It is opposite the fascinating Radstock Museum. The choice of beers is good but although I normally enjoy Ringwood Ales, the 49 was not their best. Silly me I should have chosen the Doombar like several of my friends who were well satisfied. The bar and restaurant area is very spacious and was not very full. New management are trying hard to make folk welcome and there were several mothers with toddlers eating. Pretty well behaved.
The menu is typical pub fare and very well priced. 4 of us went for the 2 for £10 offer. My chicken with bacon and cheese accompanied by chips was tasty. My friend with the pork steak covered with cider and apples and sauté potatoes was especially happy.
The decor is a little shabby but the historic photos on the walls more than make up for it.
Hey, this is not chic haute cuisine but it does not pretend to be. If you want tasty, hearty good value Somerset fare and a pint this could suite you nicely. It also has rooms but these were not viewed. More
