Description: The Bathwick Boatman is a tranquil slice of gastronomic heaven, located just 10 minutes stroll from Bath's city centre on the picture-perfect banks of the River Avon. Run by husband and wife restaurateur team Ben and Rosy Hall, the restaurant is set in an old rowing club with beautiful river views and a cosy, rustic ambience. After training in Italy and Spain, Ben worked in Miami before returning home to Britain, and his simple, seasonal menu is full of robust flavours and represents good old-fashioned value for money. The Bathwick Boatman has a divine summer terrace, and is perched just above Bath's historic boating station, where you can hire a punt or a rowing boat for a post-meal paddle.

Emailed The Bathwick Boatman to enquire about a reservation for Sunday lunch. Told them it was my girlfriends birthday and that we were visiting Bath for the day. They came back straightaway with a reservation time that suited us.

Then we arrived and were greeted by a smiling face from Rosy who remembered it was my girlfriends birthday and wished her a good day! We arrived slightly early and were seated outside whilst our table was getting ready, but then decided to stay outside. What a great decision as the views of the river made our meal even more enjoyable! The food was excellent with us both going for the roast pork, with crackling!!!

All in all a great afternoon! Thank you to the team at The Bathwick Boatman!!

We managed to secure a table on Saturday evening, and very glad we did! The staff are so friendly - one of the waitresses saw us on the balcony overlooking the Avon and recommended she take a family snap.
The food was superb- crispy Szechuan calamari with garlic mayo was hoovered up by the table, and mains were all good: confit duck, sea bass and chicken. The sweet potato mash was so good we ordered an extra portion!

All Aboard the Boatman

Cannot beat this location for summer and winter fare. With Christmas creeping into our mind and the need to secure a date for our City of Bath Boules club, end of year celebrations , we popped into to see Rosie today.
Busy indeed – this delightful well dressed Rosie lady came from out of the kitchen after the lunch time rush was over .

I cannot think of why I need to make such a fuss of this delightful restaurant beside the River Avon , other than to say something about the proprietors of this establishment – best in the West I would call them.

Oh, the food – well for many years we have dined here – cannot be bettered.
Always fresh flowers on the tables , the atmosphere reflects this class double act. The centre of Bath – no charge for their nice onsite car parking.

You can all rush now , because we managed to secure our date in December.

We've been to this restaurant a number of times before and always really enjoyed it. Recently we ate there and, although the food was excellent, the service was well below par. Charming young people but entirely inefficient. They were busy, it's true, but it's always busy there at Sunday lunchtime. I feel sad to write this, but we've been rather put off going back.
