I visited this classic pub of Bath for the first time tonight and there was a great open mic night run out the back...by a narsicist. The organisation and introductions by Lorri were great...but be ware if you talk out of place or smile at the wrong time, you will be publicly humiliated over the mic my Lorri the MC. Do not applaude or laugh at the wrong time as this Bohemia Nazi event will not accept you. It was such a shame as the talent on the night was great and for the organiser to have such a dictatorship kind of view over an event that should be about music is a shame. I hope in the future the venue looks at other organisers so this can thrive and encourage rather than exclude and elite. I won't visit or recommend until Lorri changes his ways.

Hi, Lawrie has been successfully running our open mic for many years with only praise from audience and musicians alike. We have shown him your review and given him the opportunity to respond. See below.

"G'day Jason! It's not the first time your brother has got a bit too drunk and made a bit of a twit of himself at The Playgroup...
Though your memory of the night is probably a little hazy, I had asked you gently to listen to the acts several times. The performers and audience were asking too! If you remember, most of the room clapped when I eventually told you two to be quiet or leave the room.

You are very welcome to smile and laugh at any point. Applause out of place is only an issue with jazz solos. However, if you put the acts off or get on the wrong side of the crowd you might get the mickey taken out of you or asked to continue your conversation in the garden or main pub.

Think of it as a cabaret/comedy night atmosphere as well as a live music event, they weren't necessarily all laughing at you, just laughing, sorry if you found that humiliating. That mix of wildness and respect is one of the things that make it such a popular night.

Anyway, you and Kev are welcome back if you show a bit more consideration to the performers and maybe offer a few quiet apologies...
All the best and safe travels back to Australia!"

Dropped in for a drink before heading to dinner at Aqua restaurant, just down the road. The place was hopping! Great mix of clientele, including some very friendly locals. The band that evening was top quality, great vocalist and backing. Top class bar service and value.
The place was so good we returned after dinner (not normally our style !!!). The crowd were still bopping!

We ended our evening in Bath here - a pub with lots of character. They serve a wide range of real ales, plus Mena Dhu stout which is a personal favourite of mine. We left very contented after three pints, and will certainly be back for more on our future visits to Bath.
