Love this place. It’s reliably welcoming and inclusive; has a good selection of beers/ciders/soft drinks; family-friendly and hosts some cracking bands.
Recommend The Bell to anyone who likes a proper pub.
Thanks for the 5 star review! And the pizza is yummy :)
We got it wrong. We thought this was an interesting, community run, slightly quirky pub. But when we entered it seemed more like a dingy club for music. Nothing wrong with that of course.
But when we came to choose a pint the “lady” barmaid was quite rude and ended up telling me in quite clear terms that a 4.8 OG beer was “weak”. Not in a joking way, either. We found a seat and left after our pint as we also didn’t feel the place was too clean.
Since then it seems that we were not the only ones to fall foul of her attitude, as other reviewers have written.
No doubt they have good bands on but as a pub this definitely is worth a miss.
We are sorry if a member of our staff appeared to be rude when serving you. We will show this review at the next staff meeting and discuss the contents.
One point, none of our regular ales is 4.8% but we do have a session ale at 3.8% so some confusion may have occurred there over the 'weak' beer. Cheers, The Bell
A proper job pub. Beer, wine, booze, crisps, peanuts and pork scratching.
Bar stools, wood tables LIVE music played by actual musicians. An atmosphere!
Occasional pizza bike in the garden for fresh baked pizza, but mostly it’s about being a pub.
A social place, with music and beer. Somewhere to meet up talk and hear something great.
Places like this used to be everywhere, sadly many have closed or become restaurants with bars. Cherish it, visit it, use it and enjoy it!
On a Saturday night with friends this was the only place we could have a beer, a laugh and listen to music.
Brilliant - please don’t change!
Yes! You've got it right there....a proper pub. Thank you :)
Visited the Bell recently as it’s a new local , cannot express how amazing the staff are , super friendly , feels like a home . Great music and atmosphere and Mahalia is an amazing member of staff !
Thank you... all our staff are amazing :)
My boyfriend and I popped in the Bells in on a Wednesday night after dinner. We grabbed a couple beers and a little table so we could watch the live Band from Bristol play. We had the best time listening to the band and watching all the locals dance. There were a wide range of ages in the pub and it felt as if locals had been coming here their entire lives.
Out back there is a brick pizza oven and garden seating. If dive bars aren’t your thing this might not be for you but if you love live music and feeling like you are really taking in the culture of the town you should stop in. I believe they have a live band every Wednesday night. I’d check the website to make sure.
Thank you! Really happy you enjoyed your visit - Wednesday evenings are always a bit special and the pizza is excellent. As well as live bands on Wednesday we also have them on Sunday lunchtime, Monday evening and every other Tuesday evening. Cheers :)
We were lucky to pop in when the band was playing. Absolutely charming atmosphere. And beer selection is fantastic too. Hoppy fruity ale is fabulous.
Thanks for the review! We always try to keep our live music and beer up to the highest standards. Cheers!
