“Disappointed.”
Reviewed 27 January 2011

We had stayed before in December 2009, and found it to be ok, but this year we were very disappointed with our stay. I don't know where everyone else are getting 'friendly owners' from, we have yet to even meet the owner after two stays, and just met the young man who cleaned our rooms and served us breakfast, which, credit to him, was lovely. No-one was there to meet us, despite us arriving at exactly the time we said we would. I rang the owner and she seemed surprised (despite her insistence of a time of arrival which we adhered to) and non-apologetic. We had to get the key from the hiding place and let ourselves in. Very unimpressed. Added to this an extremely lumpy uncomfortable mattress, and a shower which seemed to switch between 2 settings, scalding and freezing, and a freezing cold breakfast room - seriously I nearly wore my hat down to breakfast one morning - and it just wasn't worth the money, despite being one of the cheapest in Bath. Definitely not recommended - pay a bit extra and stay somewhere better where owners actually meet you when you arrive and show their faces when you're there - we will next time.

I decided to stay in Bath on an impulse and was booked into Ashgrove Guest House by Tourist Information.

Everyone I met at Ashgrove was charming and helpful. The room was very small but the bed was clean and comfortable, I could make myself a cup of tea and there was an ensuite loo and shower. In short, everything I needed.

The road on which the guesthouse is located is rather noisy, but this is compensated for by the fact it is very close to the city centre. I would definitely stay there again on future visits to Bath.

We stayed at this very pleasant guest house for two days at the busiest time of the year. We were met in the door by the very helpful, gracious and friendly owners. We were not charged over the odds as some B and B`s were doing, but the standard rate.
The rooms were very clean and spacious. The breakfast`s were really the best breakfasts i experienced in my whole trip through southern england.
I would recommend this B and B to everyone who appreciates good service and good food.

Travelled with husband and mother in law. Very friendly and welcoming. Some areas in need of refurbishment, single room very pokey and badly needs brightening up. Breakfast great. Perfect base for getting around they provided parking which was a real help. Overall for what we paid, good value.

On arrival at the Ashgrove I was met by the mother of the owner who was extremely welcoming when giving over the key to my room and clearly explained the services on offer.

I occupied a single room (Room 9) on the 3rd floor. (N.B. to and from which my bags were offered to be carried; which was very considerate) I was really impressed with my room! It was spotless, with a fluffy, soft bath-sheet and hair towel provided. The room also contained a wash basin with hot and cold water, 2 large mirrors, 3 power points, a TV with DVD player, a dressing table with tea and coffee making facilities, bedside table and lamp and a very comfortable bed with duvet and 2 pillows. The door also locked securely. A shared power-shower and toilet were located just outside the room but it was always perfectly clean and well ventilated. When the window was open there was some traffic noise as the guesthouse faces onto a main road but when closed it was barely noticable.

The guesthouse itself is charming with a classically decorated, clean, bright breakfast room. It is easy to find and is close to Henrietta Park and Pulteney Bridge. From Bath Spa rail station it only take 20 mins walking with bags.

Favourite part: Breakfast! :D Amazing choice with Full English and toast, Tea/Coffee/Fruit juice, fruit and yogurt, cereal. Service was excellent too!

Least favourite part: Bath Ambulance Station is just up the road so the occassional sirens can be a little jarring, but nothing else to note.

Best value for money accommodation in Bath!!!

We recently visited the beautiful and historic city of Bath and found the Ashgrove Guest House on the internet. This can be a risk, but in this case it paid dividends. Parking is a premium in Bath, but a parking place saved by the owner and a parking pass supplied by the establishment made it an awful lot easier. After a warm and friendly welcome our case was carried up to the room - which was warm and comfortably furnished, with en suite facilities, tea and coffee and a plasma TV. Advice on how to find our way into the centre of Bath - a comfortable 10 minute stroll amongst some fantastic architecture - was offered and our visit for the Bath Festival was up and running.
A comfortable nights sleep, followed by a wonderful "Full English Breakfast" with plenty of other options available set us up for another full day. A wonderful find, well worth a try!
