Looking for a B&B I have send an e-mail tot Austen Guest House. I got the message from Marian that there was no room anymore for the days we wanted to stay at this B&B. She was however very friendly to advise us in finding other places to sleep. With all thanks to Marian, we have spend our nights at the Bath University.

My parents, my brother and I stayed two nights at the Austen Guest House during our visit to England in June. Some of our friends had recommended it to us, and now I will recommend it to you!

The guest house lies on the top of one hill, but at the bottom of another. It's only a 15 minutes walk down the hill to reach the city, and a 10 minutes walk to the top of the other hill to find a lovely little park, which has a stunning view of Bath.
The house it self is tastefully decorated (in fact, it is decorated rather beautifully), and the rooms are very nice. The two rooms we stayed in, were both rather larger with newly renovated en-suite showers, and lovely beds which will certainly give you a good night's sleep. Furthermore, my brother and I got the room with a view, and overlooked the cozy road going towards the park on top of the hill.

The only problems, so to say, were the showers themselves. Apparently, plumbing in Bath made the pibes very temperamented. As my brother turned the water on for a morning shower, the pibes started screeming like nothing I have ever heard before. It was absolutely awful. But, as we learned how to trick the pibes (and open fully up for the water) the shower was quite relaxing.

So, as you've heard our good and bad experiences about the Austen House itself and it's location, I will tell you a little bit about the owner.
When you book your vacation at The Austen Guest House, you must be in the mood for a smiling, joyful landlady, who can tell you all about where to go and where not to go. (And mind you, when she informs you of the funny "Bizar" guided-tour, starting every evening at 20:00, she is right. It is incredibly entertaining). Besides greeting her guests with England's biggest smile, she makes a great breakfast. Scrambled eggs with chives, smoked salmon, ham, cheese, whole grain toast, jam and lots of fruit. - And of course; for us, she made the scandinavian life-saver: coffee.

So all in all, I will definitely recommend this B/B to anyone who wishes to go to Bath. It is charming, quiet, has a very hospitable atmosphere. In my opinion, you simply cannot pass this opportunity of a wonderful stay.

A real guest house like in "the old times" (my younger days), where you have a chat with the landlady, contact with other guests - all ideal when you travel alone.
The interaction allowed me to do and see a maximum of Bath in a short time.

I would always recommend this B&B. Located a short footwalk from the city centre and station it is the best point to start your sightseeing trip in Bath. The owners are really friendly and caring which I really appreciated as it was our first time in Bath. Loads of insider tips from a local living person allow to make the most out of your trip to a unkown city. The room was lovely decorated and really spacious. We even got a bigger room than paid for. The continental breakfast was really good with more food you would expect in a private B&B. All in all a perfect stay in lovely Bath.

Arrived at the guest house earlier than check in time but Marion, the owner, was more than happy to let us check in early.

Room was very spacious and comfortable. Within easy walking distnce to Bath city centre. Variety of breakfast options was provided the next day, very tasty!!

We visited Bath in March 2010 to run the Bath Half. What a great base to spend a wonderful weekend. The accommodation is very good indeed and the fantastic breakfast set us up for our days - the porridge on "run-day" was just the ticket. We hope to return - at the latest on Bath Half day in 2011. Thank you, Marian!
