My daughter is getting married in June and all the family 'Hens' thought it would be lovely to celebrate this wonderful occasion by getting together for a fabulous afternoon tea and we weren't disappointed! Derricks is a really lovely tea rooms with fabulous food and drink and James was a really kind and friendly host, even throwing in a bottle of sparkling wine for us! We had a secluded area of the tea rooms to ourselves and did not feel rushed in any way, even though we booked our visit for a Sunday afternoon. Well worth a visit, no matter what the occasion!

Jusr back from afternoon tea with Groupon voucher.Really enjoyed the visit. Glass of wine, dainty sandwiches, home made cake and scones with the usual jam and clotted cream. Have been to Derricks a few times for breakfast and this was up to the usual high standard.

We visited Derricks tea rooms on a weekday as we had a voucher and was hoping it wouldn't be too busy. Unfortunately they were extremely understaffed and as the majority of the people were sat outside, we hardly saw any staff at all. The waitress seemed very unhappy in her job and unhelpful. Our voucher entitled us to a glass of bubbly which wasn't mentioned by the waitress so we ended up having to ask for it. She walked past our table countless times after we had finished and did not take away any plates or asked if we were ok when she must have seen we were waiting for the table to be cleared. An old couple had to wait an hour for their tea and tea cakes and were frantic that they were going to miss their bus but no apology was made by the waitress infact she seemed very put out that they asked her where their order was! On the plus side the sandwiches were nice but we did ask not to have certain fillings but they still bought out the fillings we asked not to have. The cakes seemed homemade and the tea was lovely and in proper china cups which makes the difference. It is such a shame as this place could be absolutely perfect but the service and the waitress really lets it down. Hate writing bad reviews but haven't ever experienced anything quite like it before.

The afternoon tea we had via a groupon voucher was great with the sandwiches and scones being fresh and a big piece of carrot cake. Unfortunately one of our first choices had sold out (perhaps you could make an additional cider cake to meet with demand in the future) but that wasnt too much of a bother. We sat out in the garden as it was a lovely day. The only let downs here were the slow service, we were asked to wait while the table was cleaned then when we were motioned to the table, the waitress said she would pop back to take our order, 20 minutes passed until she returned and then we had to wait 20 minutes until our tea stand arrived. I know the place was busy but perhaps extra staffing could help with this. Secondly, we had to ask for our glasses of sparkling wine as stated on the groupon voucher as this didn't come with the tea stand and the chap didn't realise we had this included even though I handed over the voucher to him when we arrived. Thirdly, unlike other places we've been to for afternoon tea the waitress didn't come over and ask us if everything was ok so felt staff interaction with customers was non existent. On summing up, the afternoon tea was good but the service and interaction with the customer needs to improve.

My fiancé took me to this wonderful little down to check the birthplace of Cheddar cheese, and we wouldn't miss the opportunity to try some local scone and cream of course. Very happy we found here, very Friendly service and not disappointed with the scone and jam and clotted cream. Highly recommended!
